Spectral light illuminates

The dark corners of the night

Every twisting street leads to nowhere

Shadows cloak forgotten souls in mystery

Faces peer from the frayed edges of a torn city

Ravaged by merciless winds of poverty

Rattled by icy breath of winter vortex

Solace in numbed bliss

Penetrating the marrow of being

Visions dancing in the firelight from barrels

Sparks levitating into starry dynamo of heaven

Extinguished in last throes of smoldering red

Klieg lights vanquishing

Haunted remnants of refuge

As batons clang against ghostly phantoms

Flower growing in crevice of cement

Crushed in bloom of youth

By polished boots reflecting sodium shine

Under the roof of golden eternity
