Figure 3.2 Construction of Film Resistor. This figure has the cylinder in the center like the last one but there are some differences. The lead connections no longer look like nails. Where the head of the nail used to be is now a shallow cup. The open side of the cup is facing away from the lead, shaft of the nail. When the resistor is put together the cup fits over the end of the cylinder. In addition the resistance element has a line drawn around it that looks like a spring. This is what is known as a helix. The line indicates where the resistive film has been cut away by a laser. This completes the verbal description.
