Figure 5.1. At approximately the center of the diagram is a triangle turned on its side. The point is to the right and the left side is vertical. This is the symbol for a general amplifier as well as an operational amplifier. The amplifier has its output on the right, taken from the point of the triangle. There are two inputs on the left. The upper one is marked with a plus sign and the lower one is marked with a minus sign. On the left side of the diagram is an AC generator labeled V sub in. The bottom end of the generator is connected to ground and the upper end is connected to the plus input of the amplifier. A resistor labeled R sub 2 is connected from the output of the amplifier to the minus input. Another resistor labeled R sub 1 connects from the minus input to ground. The voltage across R sub 1 is labeled beta V sub O. The voltage at the plus input is labeled V sub 1 and the voltage at the minus input is labeled V sub 2. The output voltage is labeled V sub O.
