Figure 2.14. Picture a rectangle longer than it is high. Along the top edge are 3 holes representing a piece of 3 ring notebook paper. There is a smaller rectangle inside the large one representing the area of the graph on the paper. There are vertical lines within this rectangle and they are far apart at the left and get closer together toward the center. To the right of the center the lines are far apart again and then closer together toward the right edge of the inner rectangle. At the top there are numbers that are close to the top line of the inner rectangle and above it. Above the left most line is the number 1. The next vertical line has no number. The next one is labeled 2, the next 3 and so on up to 6. The next line has no label and the one after that is labeled 8. Another line is skipped and the next is labeled 1. The 1 is higher, being farther from the top line than the previous set of numbers. The same pattern is followed until the far right line is labeled 1. The numeral 1 is farther from the top line than the previous set of numbers. There are numeric labels at the bottom of the picture under the bottom line of the inner rectangle. The left most line is labeled 100. The line which has a 2 at the top is labeled 200. The line in between would be 150. the lines for 3 and 4 are not labeled at the bottom. The line with a 5 at the top is labeled 500. The lines for 6, 7, 8, and 9, are not labeled at the bottom. The line which has a 1 a little farther away from the top line is labeled 1k. The next line which is 1.5 k is not labeled at top or bottom. The next line is labeled at the bottom 2k. The next two which are labeled 3 and 4 at the top are not labeled at the bottom the 5 line is labeled 5k. The lines for 6, 7, 8, and 9, are not labeled at the bottom. The right hand line with the 1 at the top which is even farther away from the top line is labeled at the bottom 10k. End verbal description.
