BUILDING DEEP SPACE NINE
PHASE 1
DESIGN DESCRIPTION:
Phase 1 began on Jan 10th 2004 and completed on Sept 13th 2006 with several breaks in between for other projects.
Phase 1 has gone to plan and is now complete as of Sept 13th 2006.
The blueprints have seen many revisions and the last revision has been designated as a final print these blueprints are 15 pages and show detail of the entire model and correct scale measurements and complete build process.
I will be using this set of blueprints throughout the rest of the project.
Blueprints for lighting the interior and exterior have been completed.
DESIGN LAYOUT:
I will start out with a frame of the outer ring first in 2 layers, reason for 2 layers is the frame will have to act as a skeleton to support the outer panels and the inner frames which will hold electrical components.
The inner frame will consist of channels to hold the wires in place as well as locking ports to secure the attaching parts.
The frame is built in 4 sections to allow the ease of transportation to special events or conventions with this concept in mind the model will have to hide the 4 seams and this will be done by overlapping methods.
First the docking ring will be built and then the habitat ring and then the Promenade/central core/ops.
The upper and lower docking pylons will be built separately which will be detachable for ease of transporting and since these 6 parts are the same a master pylon will be made and a mold will be made of it to cut down build time.
Back in the day the original filmed model used custom built lamps inside for lighting and used a parallel port to send power to the model, this model will use super bright LED's in various locations inside and outside of the model and will be powered by any 110v wall outlet using a dc converter.
The model will have custom built circuit boards to control lighting and flashing sequences.
The ops section will have "windows" to show interior detail and LCARS computers as well as Sisko's office!
As it stands now the model will feature detailed interior of only the ops section, but may later change to complete interior detail for every window port like the promenade (Quarks bar) so when one looked at the model close up one would see serious detail of the promenade through all the port windows and ops center.
