On this first, cold Sunday in December.
We gather this day, a time to remember.
We're busy with shopping and what to wear.
Can we find time to share and to care?
The days are filled with school events.
And today starts a season called Advent.
Advent is the time of great hope.
Not a time to worry or mope.
The stores are stuffed with gifts and presents.
But the true gift of Christmas is the gift of His presence.
Because this holiday is not about toys.
But the birth of a Savior, now just a baby boy.
This wreath that we use, made out of greens.
Tells of God's endless love, that's what it means.
A candle we light, is a symbol of Jesus.
That He lights up the world, and just how He sees us.
Lord, open our hearts, is what we do pray.
And fill us with your Spirit, each and every day.
