Bachelor Of Interdisciplinary Studies at ASU!!!

• Interdisciplinary Studies: When I first decided to get my degree (Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies), people would always be like...What is that? I found that the best way to explain a BIS degree is to tell people about your focus areas. In my case I say it is a combination of a Business and Geography degree combined into one.
• The reason that I chose an interdisciplinary major is because it was something different. The reason I chose Business and Geography is because I have always loved Geography and I knew that I wanted to open my own business somday. After having ten years of experience in the workfield, I discovered that business depends a lot on location. This is why I was interested in a degree that could teach me both about business and geography.
• BIS 301: When I decided I wanted to get my degree in interdisciplinary studies I didn’t even know what the term "Interdisciplinary" meant. This class taught me all of the proper terminology and introduced what my degree really was. In this class I also learned how to combine both my Business and Geography focus areas into one. BIS 301 helped me understand why I chose interdisciplinary studies as a major.
• BIS 302: In BIS 302 we learned a lot about different surveying methods. Most of the class was a lot of group projects. I can say this class really helped me by teaching me how to work productively in a group. I learned so much about group management skills that will be able to use this information for the rest of my career.
• BIS 401: In BIS 401 you chose a site where you do an internship. I was able to do my internship at Direct Alliance Corporation. I have actually been with the company for about six years, but I have always been on the sales side of things. I was fortunate to be able to work in our logistics department for my internship. I learned so much information on how shipments work and configuring the right orders. When working on the sales side of things my whole life, it was nice to see how logistics assisted the whole sales organization.
• BIS 402: In BIS 402 we learned about different thinking methods. I thought this class was very interesting because I learned how many different ways of thinking there are. The most beneficial skill that I learned from this class is what type of thinking I need to work on. It really helped me get to know myself and what type of person I was compared to other thinking types.
