Castle Neuschwanstein

Neuschwanstein Castle Singer’s Hall- It is the fourth floor. Design is the Minstrels Hall at Wartburg Castle. Bedroom- Carved in the Neo-Gothic style. 14 carvers worked 4 and a half years to make it. Throne room- Byzantine style. Hagia Sophia in Constantinople inspired it. The throne is missing. Coat of arms over castle entrance. The castle has been used in a number of movies and TV shows. These include The Great Escape, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Timekeeper, Ludwig, and Spaceballs. Its TV shows include The Amazing Race, and Grimm’s Fairy Tale Classics. The interior of the castle is copyrighted and taking photos is not allowed. The castle was not completed when Ludwig died. Neuschwanstein castle had a running water system from a spring 200 meters above. King Ludwig II The castle is owned by the state of Bavaria. Ludwig used his own money to build the castle. King Ludwig the 2nd died in 1886. Seven weeks after that, the castle was opened to the public. He built the castle to be alone. “"I want to remain an eternal mystery to myself and others"” Ludwig said to his governess. He liked acting. He became king at age 18. “King Ludwig II said. "I intend to rebuild the old castle ruins of Hohenschwangau by the Pollat Gorge in the genuine style of the old German Knightly fortresses........the spot is one of the most beautiful that one could ever find. "” He grew up at Hohenschwangau Castle. He was often referred to as “Mad King Ludwig”. 1864-1886
