Heidi Contreras, M.S.
NY State Certifies K-12 School Counselor

Heidi Contreras is a certified School Counselor who earned her MS from Hofstra University in 1997. She worked at Hofstra University as an Admissions Counselor from 1993 to 1995. As a result of her liaison work with Hofstra’s School for University Studies Freshman Division and Program for Academic Learning Skills (PALS), Heidi became an Assistant Dean for the School for University Studies, assisting with admissions, intake interviews, acceptance decisions, course advisement and enrollment of freshman. From there, Heidi became the Assistant Dean of Hofstra’s New College, working with students on designing their academic programs, evaluating transcripts for transfer students as well as graduation candidates and working as a member of several administrative committees on academic issues. Currently, Heidi resides with her husband and three children in Suffolk County, Long Island and continues to keep up to date with her counseling background through attendance at conferences. She is a member of Nassau Counselors Association and the Western Suffolk Counselors Association and has been offered membership in the Higher Education Consultants Association.

Linda De Motta, M.A.

Linda De Motta has been teaching for over 25 years in a variety of settings--elementary school, high school, secondary and post-secondary education as well as many special education settings. Linda worked for Hofstra University for 17 years; she was the assistant director and then the director of Hofstra's Program for Academic Learning Skills (PALS), one of the top programs in the nation for post-secondary support of students with learning differences. Additionally, Linda taught university courses in social sciences/education as well as humanities/literature and writing. Currently, Linda is the Learning Specialist at Stony Brook University's School of Medicine, working with medical students to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their learning techniques. She resides in Suffolk County and continues to advocate for students with learning differences, especially as they make the transition from high school to college.
