Gerbil Mania !

Gerbils are great fun to watch and breed...

• First choose a nice breeding pair, particularly a colour you like best. Once you have done that you'll need to arrange a large decent tank for them to live in. Allow them to settle and let them start exploring their tank and each other for a couple of days. After that you need to begin playing with them and taming them. Gerbils are very active and enquisitive creatures and require many toys. They love being handled and being able to explore the human hand. If you want to breed gerbils make sure you have a place where the young can can be homed as gerbils can produce up to 50 young or more in their life time. Unlike many other creatures the father gerbil can be kept with the mother throughout the time of breeding and nursing. The father loves playing and caring for the babies just as much as the mother and also helps out the tired mother. This is one of my favourite things about gerbils, how they live like a (MINI FAMILY).
• By around 8-12 weeks gerbils may begin to show signs of breeding however my gerbils began at the age of 18 weeks, it all depends on the gerbil itself. My gerbils: Jet (Black)mother and Samson (Agente)dad are doing great and Jet has had 2 litters already. Her 1st litter contained 5 great babies. 1 Male and 4 Females, many colours were produced: agouti, black, agente & slate. In her 2nd litter again of 5 I was surprised to see an albino white. This may have been in the genes from the mother(Jet) or the father(Samson). Jet is pregnant with another litter which i am expecting on the 30th June. • Gerbils are very clean and energetic pets and require lots and lots of attention. Gerbils are good for youngsters as they can fathom out how to run a family etc and arrange and remember dates of births etc.
