Project Summary
In this project I looked at HIV and AIDS statistics for the adolescent age group in the US. I looked at the number of new HIV cases among all age groups and the number of new AIDS cases among all age groups. I wanted to compare the trends of new cases in other age groups to adolescents. I found that there was a general increase in all age groups in both new AIDS and HIV cases. I found that when compared to adolescents, the older age groups had many more new cases of HIV and AIDS indicating that most new cases were caused by risky behaviors rather then people being born with the virus from an infected mother. Another factor that I looked at, was where adolescents are getting their AIDS educatio and information from, how this has changed over the last several years, and how this compares to the numbers of new HIV and AIDS cases.
Over the last several years, adolescents are gaining more education and information from parents, friends, and school. While friends used to be the most frequently used source of information, more students are getting education about AIDS in school now. I found it intersting that even though education has increased, the spread of HIV and AIDS is still increasing, and at a faster rate. This just shows how big of a problem it is, and how hard it will be to stop in the future.
