TIKAL

The city of Tikal emerged from the jungle to become the jewel of the Mayan civilization more than 1000 years ago. Immense pyramids were erected adjacent to lavish palaces while development in the arts and sciences flourished. Then, mysteriously , the metropolis was abandoned in an event which continues to be one of the greatest enigmas in human history, baffling archaeologists and intriguing historians.

Visitors to Tikal National Park will be able to explore the haunting ruins and walk in the exotic luxuriance of the tropical rain forest. Tikal is one of Central America's largest nature reserves and it is commonplace for visitors to observe a large variety of wildlife species including spider and howler monkeys, parrots, coatimundis, and magnificent ocellated turkeys.
