Audi TT

It all began with a 3x5 index card, on a table in Simi Valley, California. A design studio, owned by Audi and Volkswagen, was the birthplace of the TT, as well as the New Beetle. Both began as doodles by Freeman Thomas, and evolved into production cars. This all began back in 1994, which shows it can take a while for cars to come about. The first showcar came out in 1995 at the Frankfurt Autoshow. That car is almost identical to the production TT now available. Finally, the name: The first TTs were produced in the 1960s, by the NSU company (The Auto-Union of Audi, DKW, Wanderer, and NSU, the 4 rings you know?). It was made for the Tourist Trophy championship, a British road race. Now on to the car!

The TT sits on top of 17" alloy wheels, similar to the showcar's wheels. The main difference between the cars is the C-pillar. On the showcar, it's merely an extended B-pillar. But it has its own look on the real car.

The Heart

The standard issue VW/Audi turbo, found in the A4, A3, Passat, Euro GTi (and soon ours!), New Beetle Turbo, and now the TT. The 20 valve engine variation puts out 180 horsepower, and will bring the TT to 60mph in 7.4 seconds. It's good for a total of 130mph all together.

Inside

The interior is trimmed in brushed aluminum, and has a repeating theme of the steel circle and 8 rivits. That pattern is also found on the gas cap and wheels. The radio is found behind the steel plate that has TT carved into it. Wide sport seats and twin air-bags per occupant complete it.
