Blue Angels Tribute Page

This page is dedicated to Lt. Commander Kieron O'Connor and Lt. Kevin Colling, killed October 28, 1999, when their F/A-18 Hornet crashed on a landing approach to Moody Air Force Base in southern Georgia. An airshow was scheduled for the following weekend, and they were doing routine surveillance of the area surround the base. Most likely they were too low and hit the tall trees that are around the base.

O'Connor was the pilot of plane #3. He graduated from Catholic University of America in 1988 with a master of arts degree in accounting. After completing Aviation Officer Candidate School he was commissioned an ensign. He earned his wings of gold in October 1990. During his naval career, Kieron has served with Strike-Fighter Squadron 81 (VFA-81), deployed aboard USS Saratoga (CV-60); Strike-Fighter Squadron 131 (VFA-131), deployed aboard USS George Washington (CYN- 73), on her maiden deployment in support of Operations Southern Watch in Iraq and Deny Flight and Provide Promise in Bosnia-Herzegovina; Strike-Fighter Squadron 106 (VFA-106) as an instructor pilot; and Commander, Naval Air Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet as an Aide/Flag Lieutenant.
