The Timorese Genocide

"But never forget if we can do this here, and if we can then say to the people of the world, whether you live in Africa, or Central Europe, or any other place, if somebody comes after innocent civilians and tries to kill them en masse because of their race, their ethnic background or their religion, and it's within our power to stop it, we will stop it."

Remarks to the KFOR troops, Macedonia, June 22, 1999 by William J. Clinton, President of the United States of America

WARNING!

The following photos are very graphic. They show the brutal nature of the pro-Indonesian militias and the complicity of the Indonesian army in the massacres in East Timor.

This pictures, taken on the second week of September 1999, were obtained by Portuguese newspapers from sources inside Dili.

If you have any doubts about the Indonesian participation in the atrocities, feel free to compare the insignias on the soldier from the second picture with the ones on the following photo, showing an Indonesian battalion arriving in Dili, on July 26.

Take Action

In the United States, the news coverage on TV about the annihilation of the East Timorese people is almost nonexistent. Please take some minutes to send a fax or an email to American news outlets demanding better reporting. Please write to them if you think the lives of thousands are worth more attention then a stain in a blue dress.

Please call on local and national news outlets to stop treating East Timor as a legitimate part of Indonesia. And ask them to include the facts about the consequences of the Indonesian invasion, as well as the role the U.S. has played in supporting the illegal occupation
