Season XIV (14): Can a 90-plus-win team win it all?
Yes!

Congratulations to tomwistar for winning SBDL season XIV title!!!

He and bunze0 put on a fantastic, exciting 7-game series for the ring, and both were deserving of the title. It was a wild Game 7: Four lead changes, a blown 4-run lead, two blown saves (one per team), and a walk-off double in the bottom of the ninth (see Game Log)
Congrats to bunze0 for his second place finish for the second season in a row.

WOW, this finals series is a dogfight as Tom has clawed back from down 3-1 to force a game 7 versus Larry.
For the season (regular and playoffs), tomwistar holds the edge 17-13 over bunze0, but it comes down to one final game.
Frank Kitson and Dizzy Trout are the scheduled starters tonight, and both pitchers have had excellent postseasons thus far.
tomwistar's Kitson is 2-0 in the playoffs with a stellar 2.70 ERA and 1.38 WHIP.
bunze0's Trout is 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. This was the matchup in game 3, which was the only W for tomwistar in the first 4 games of the series. Kitson was solid and catcher Mike Piazza was 4-for-4 with 2 HR and 3 RBI to lead the 7-4 win.
tomwistar's hitting is spread throughout the lineup, from Chick Hafey's .372 BA, 8 runs and 8 RBI to Mike Piazza's 7 HRs and 1.103 slugging to Gil Hodges with 4 HR, 7 RBI, and 8 runs. The team is hitting .313 with a .923 OPS.
Bunze0's offense is led by the out-of-this-world postseason performance of third-bagger Eddie Mathews, who has 5 HR, 18 RBI in 9 games. Also leading the 7 R/g attack are elite sluggers league-MVP Babe Ruth (4 HR, 10 RBI) and Hank Greenberg (3 HR, 10 RBI). The team as a whole is hitting .319 with an OPS of .976. And maybe tonight MVP runners-up Hack Wilson (bunze0) and Rogers Hornsby (tomwistar) will take center stage. . .
Can tomwistar complete the comeback and become 90-win title holder? Or will bunze0 avenge game 3 and the season series by taking the title?

Tomwistar and Bunze0 swept their semifinal series and will face off in the Season 14 finals. No more playoff domination by .500 teams and/or the West. ;) Congrats to them as that series begins tomorrow night.
If you have not done so already, please check in to the SBDL Discussion Thread to confirm that you are taking part in Season XV. I believe there are still 6 people to check in. Hopefully in the next day or so, we will have a replacement for Denorien. An invitation has been sent to one person. And there is a backup person in place as well.
Remember, we are all eligible to switch ballparks, and an owner must announce the new park with the first set of keepers AND use a draft pick to make the switch. The only person who will be allowed a new park without sacrificing a draft pick will be Denorien's replacement.

Wow. What a finish!
Mr. Baseball World takes the first two of the 3-game series against TimOrz to claim the Central division. So, Crazy Eights did it with a 5-3 win and a 5-3 win. That's crazy (8 runs per game).
JOEOC did exactly what he had to do - sweeping Munich_Man out of the division title and the playoffs.
Tomwistar even swept Bunze0 in their series, giving Tom the East title, #1 seed, AND a 90-win season. Bunze0 is the wild card.
Hank Aaron didn't need all three games to break the single-season hits record. He knocked a single and double in the first game against Marauditos to claim the record. Aaron finished with 273 hits, 3 more than Speaker's old record. Hammerin' Hank did not win the MVP, but he did claim the batting title at .393 and added 42 doubles, 11 triples, and 56 home runs.
Hack Wilson on the other hand did NOT pick up the needed ribbies to claim that record, falling one RBI short of tying Greenberg's 202 RBI record.
Ruth did finish with a record-breaking .513 OBP, and Wagner surpassed Musial for the AB record.
On to the playoffs . . .
WC Bunze0 goes to Mr. Baseball World
JOEOC goes to Tomwistar
Good luck gang!

So, Tom and Larry are in, but they play each other tonight to decide who is the East winner and who is the wild card. Tom has a 1-game lead.
Mr.BBW has a 1-game lead in the Central over TimOrz - and they face off tonight. 13Baseballs could sweep and Tim could take two of three from Mr.BBW, which would create a 3-way tie. And Mr.BBW would win based on Divisional record. What does this mean?
If it is a 3-way tie, then Mr.BBW wins the division.
If Tim and MrBBW are tied, Tim wins based on H2H.
Odd, eh?
And in the West, JOEOC is three games behind the Man from Munich, and they play each other of course. If Joe sweeps to force a tie, Joe takes the divisional based on H2H.
And only Tom has a shot at winning 90 games, which is crazy. He must sweep Bunze0 to do it, too.

Six games to go. There are no teams guaranteed a playoff berth yet!!
Tomwistar's lead in the East is still 1 game. Tom and Bunze0 face each other the final 3 games at Tom's home park. The division could be decided right there. In the meantime, if Tom wins one game tonight, he locks a playoff berth. And if Bunze0 wins two games tonight, then he's also in.
13Baseballs and TimOrz are TIED for the Central, with Mr.BBW just one game back. Chris and Rick play each other tonight, then Rick and Tim play each other the final nigtht. It's going to be interesting. Rick is home for all six games.
Munich_Man's lead was cut to 2 last night, as JOEOC is knocking on the door. And . . . Yes! Rick and Joe face off Friday night, with Rick at home.
Records?
Well, Honus Wagner is 27 AB shy of the record.
Babe Ruth has already broken the Runs record he set last year with 197 (195)
Hank Aaron needs 8 hits to surpass Speaker's Hits record. Yes, Aaron.
Hack Wilson is 4 RBI shy of the record Greenberg set two seasons ago.
Babe Ruth will likely break the OBP record he set last year. He's at .514. He was .506 last season.
There are a few pitchers within striking distance of allowing more Hits in one season than ever before. The record is 353. There are 4 SP with 338+.
There are 3 SP within the ER record. Each is at 177-179, and the record is 181.

Ironically, we may not even have a 90-win team this season, forget having one win the title. Wow. There is lots still to be decided with 9 games to go.
EAST - tomwistar has a one game lead over Bunze0, but Tom is an unbelievable 55-17 at home with all 9 remaining games at his friendly Hilltop.
CENTRAL - 13baseballs holds a one-game lead over TimOrz AND Mr. Baseball World. Rick has the best home record of the trio (41-34) and 6 home games to come, but Chris has the best road record (40-35) and 6 road games to come.
WEST - Munich_Man is eyeing his first playoff berth in a few seasons with a small (but league's largest) three-game lead over JOEOC. Rick is one of three 50-home-game winners, but only has three home games remaining.
WILD CARD - Bunze0 has a four-game lead over TimOrz for the fourth playoff spot, but I bet neither one of them is trying just for that spot yet.
Offenses are again the story in Season 14 (ATG4's story too) as more records are dropping and being threatened. And Babe Ruth and Dick Radatz are trying to become repeat MVP and Cy Young winners.
Stay tuned!
