restless summer

My mother announced:

“I’m going to bed!”

And with that my night began.

E-mails and IMs didn’t keep me awake;

They only used up an unsleepy hour.

A rerun of the Cosby variety

Barely satisfied thirty minutes.

Cleaned out two dresser drawers

(No, I’m not kidding);

Still not tired!

Tuned into the radio;

Turned off by the absurdity.

If I were at school

I could run upstairs or down,

Splash in the rain,

Get some food

(Remembered: I just polished off two brownies),

Or discuss life.

Oh these summer nights

Could not be any more boring.

Vacation, huh?

More like ho-humity.
