Do I do things because I want to or because I think it will make me look good? When I created my latest CD mix, did I include Dashboard Confessional because I really do like him or because college kids are supposed to listen to him?
A lot of times when I decide what to listen to or what to wear, I picture myself from the outside. Yes, that’s it- be sure to look at the sky when you walk; that way people will think you appreciate nature. No, don’t scratch your nose just yet- that girl over there is looking at you and you don’t want her to think your digging for boogers.
But . . . I like to think that some of me is original. I decided to buy those shoes that plenty of people made fun of. I talk about that band so much that it gets annoying. And I like those things because I like them, not because I look better if I like them.
