Saint Joseph's University Concert Committee

Concerts at SJU are what you make of them.
The SJU Concert Committee is your opportunity to be a part of the show and making it all happen. From determining bands to bid on, to building the stage, to stocking the dressing rooms, to the last piece of equipment to get loaded on the truck, you can experience what it is like to produce a concert!

The committee is broken down into four main crews, production, publicity, hospitality, and security.

Production Crew
Production involves the physical aspects of the show. It is very demanding yet extremely rewarding, especially the days of the concert. To prepare for a concert, the production crew needs to review the contracts and follow their requirements. Where do you get a stage? How many seats are there going to be? How many hands do you need to work the show? Do you need to hire outside lighting and sound? Do you need a generator? When are you going to start setting up? Do you need electricians and riggers? The production crew set the day of schedule including sound checks, performances and set changes.

Publicity Crew
Publicity is essential. The committee handling publicity has as much to think about as the production people. When do you start advertising? Where are you going to advertise? What type of advertising can you do for free? What should your posters look like? Are you going to advertise at other schools? What are the crew shirts going to look like? How many shirts are you going to need? What will the concert passes look like? The committee coordinates the printing of tickets, ticket sales sites, press releases for ticket distribution and the web site.

Safety and Security Crew
Security is very important for the day of the event and takes a lot of pre-coordination. What company is going to be hired to do security? How many guards do you need as per the contract and at what times? Do you need metal detectors and how many? Where are the guards going to be posted? How many radios do you need? You also need to set up ambulance service during the concert for emergencies. The chair is also responsible for security at ticket distribution sites and tracking the sale of merchandise during the concert.

Hospitality Crew
The Hospitality committee is responsible for coordinating the set-up and preparation of dressing rooms, tour production office, and production crew meal rooms. The chair is to coordinate the necessary housekeeping, ground transportation, lodging, and other requests from the crew and the band. The committee chair is responsible for providing food and beverage as specified in the rider. This may involve three meals, renting tables, and will involve supervising runners who will be available for last minute needs. The professionalism of the Hospitality crew is essential for a smooth show.
