I packed most of my clothing, a few books, and as much food as I could carry. I was in the middle of grabbing anything that I could sell when I noticed a chain hanging out of the pocket on my school vest. Curiously, I pulled it out and looked at it. It was a beautiful golden chain, with a small cluster of rubies, black jades, and dark blue sapphires set into a gold circle that was part of the chain. Silently, I slipped it over my head and tucked it under my windbreaker. Bending down, I swung my backpack up on my shoulder and grabbed my duffel bag. As quietly as I could, I snuck out my window and made my way to the highway. Once there, I opened a portal to the only place on Earth I had ever been; a video arcade.
It being five-thirty in the morning, the arcade was closed. Looking around, I spotted an open window and climbed out of it. I wandered around for about an hour before people started getting up to go to work. Not long afterward, teenagers started heading to school. The streets had been clear of teenagers for about ten minutes, when a human lightning bolt with long blonde hair came barreling around the corner and straight into me. “Hey!” I shouted as I hit the pavement. “Sorry!” She said, in a whiny, slightly familiar voice, helping me to my feet. “I’m gonna be late! I’m gonna be late! I’m gonna be late!” She shouted, continuing her headlong flight down the sidewalk. I stared after her for a moment, then shook my head and started walking again. I had only taken a few steps when a voice behind me said, “Sorry about her.” “Huh?” I asked, turning to see a woman with dark, waist length hair and pretty eyes standing just behind me. “I should have overturned her bed, like Sammy told me to.” She shook hands with me. “I’m Mrs. Tsukino, Usagi’s mother.” She said. “Hissori. I’m new to this place, and a little lost.” Mrs. Tsukino gave a slight giggle and motioned for me to follow her. “Maybe I can help you find your way and feed you at the same time.”
