April 4, 2005

A combination of 132 children and parents came on board for the Reading is Fun! project carried-out by Kappa Delta Pi and held at the Washington Citizen's Library. The childrens' ages ranged from infant to high school!
The focus of the event was on children's author Eric Carle and his well-known book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Melissa Fonda used a caterpillar puppet and Marisa Crossan used a felt board to tell the story to the children. After the story, the children learned the days of the week in sign-language by our interpreter, Hila, then watched a movie on Eric Carle.
The children then completed an art project by mkaing butterfly wings from poster board and tissue paper and later used the wings to act out the story.
The children then enjoyed creating their own snack by decorating butterfly-shaped cookies. Upon leaving, each family was presented their own copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar!
