The Hawaii Hammerheads replaced the Honolulu Hurricanes in 1999. After going 10-6 in the regular season, it seemed as though the team would host the Mississippi Fire Dogs in the playoffs. However, ownership wanted the team to continue playing on the road. A player revolt against ownership kept the team in the playoffs and the team ended up bringing the first and only indoor football championship to Hawaii, defeating the Texas Terminators, 28-13. Like all teams from Hawaii, travel costs became a burden and the team folded.
