The AIFL Ghostriders were supposed to be the Carolina Sharks. However, the owner pulled out at the last second, and AIFL owner Anderw Haines quickly assembled a sixth team to replace the Sharks. All ten games were played on the road and the Ghostriders were blown out of almost all of them by very wide margins. In the AIFL's first season, all teams qualified for the postseason. The Ghostriders lost at Johnstown, 77-14. In 2006, the Ghostriders found a home at the Asheville Civic Center. However, after an infamous game where a stained and rippled turf was held together with green duct tape, the franchise entered a downward spiral. Corrupt ownership lead the team to fold after just four games, all losses. The Ghostriders were then replaced by a traveling team named the Ghostchasers.
