Looking back, it is obvious that the Maryland Commandos were a futile attempt to keep the Washington Commandos franchise alive during the AFL’s hardest year. Maryland’s four losses came by an average of 23 points, two of the games at neutral sites. The Washington Commandos would return in 1990, but the franchise would go under. Arena football has not returned to the Washington D.C. area since.
