The Las Vegas Gladiators managed to make the postseason in their first year after their move from New Jersey. Unfortunately, the team got pounded by Arizona, 69-26. Due to an alignment conflict, the Gladiators competed in the Eastern Division for this season. In 2004 and 2005, the Gladiators stayed extremely consistent, continuing to go 8-8. However, in neither of these years was the .500 mark good enough to clinch a playoff berth. Craig Wheelihan led the Gladiators into 2006, but was injured after throwing for thirty touchdowns and eleven picks. Jason Fife replaced "Wheels" and did not accomplish much with his team. With a 5-11 record and only one road victory, the Gladiators missed the playoffs for the third straight year.
