The Corpus Christi Sharks were one of a few subpar Texas expansion teams. The team managed only to beat Laredo, Amarillo, Stockton, and Texas. The Sharks did put together a four game winning streak to end the season, however. The team almost had a huge upset on the road at South Georgia, scoring 27 fourth quarter points, but missing a tying two-point conversion. In 2008, the Sharks were led by quarterback Fran Johnson. The team never won two games in a row, and only lost two games in a row twice, truly an up-and-down season. Three of the wins came against the Texas Copperheads. The Sharks had two 1,000 yard receivers in Brandon Hussye and Jonathon Graham. Ivory McCann returned four missed field goals for touchdowns, one interception for a touchdown, and four kickoffs for touchdowns. In 2009, the Sharks fell to a franchise low two win season. The team was outscored by an average of 19 points per game but was competitive in several matches. The two wins came against Amarillo and Oklahoma City, but the Sharks would lose later at Oklahoma City 93-41. The team finished its season on an eight game losing streak. Following the 2009 season, the Sharks folded and the IFL's Hammerheads moved into the American Bank Center.
