The Conneticut Colonials were one of the USBL's inaugural franchises. After posting a 13-10 record, the team took two years off and then moved to New Haven for 1988. In the postseason, the Skyhawks received a forfeit win against Jersey Shore before defeating Philadelphia and Palm Beach for the league title. New Haven posted a 27-33 record over the next three seasons, missing the playoffs each time. In 1993, the team became the Conneticut Skyhawks. The team did not produce a winning season until 1998, when the Skyhawks lost their semifinal game against Long Island and the consolation game against Jacksonville by a combined eight points.
