This WebQuest is presently designed for a 5th grade art class which meets just once a week for a forty-five minute period. In order for the entire class to participate, the computer room will be needed so that all the students in the class can do their research at the same time. Two or three computer sessions will be needed to complete the research, as well as scan and alter the cubist portraits.
The art performance indicators addressed in this WebQuest follow the National Visual Art Standards listed in section 3. They are as follows:
1) Students should be able
to develop and present basic analysis of works of art from structural,
historical, and cultural perspectives,
and from combinations of those perspectives. This includes the
ability to understand and evaluate
work in the various arts disciplines.
2) Students should have an
informed acquaintance with exemplary works of art from a variety of
cultures and historical periods,
and a basic understanding of historical development in the arts
disciplines, across the arts as
a whole, and within cultures.
3) Students should be able
to communicate proficiently in at least one art form,. including the ability
to define and solve artistic problems
with insight, reason, and technical proficiency.
The performance indicators addressed in this WebQuest for language arts follow the National Standards for Language Arts issued in 1996. They are as follows:
1) Students must organize
their ideas logically and write and speak clearly and effectively.
2) Students should be active
and critical users of media and technology.
3) As they answer questions
and explore issues, students must be able to find many sources of
information. They should
know how to evaluate information, summarize it, and communicate their
conclusions clearly to others.

Human Resources Needed:
This unit can be easily facilitated with one classroom teacher. It
may be helpful to divide the
groups so that at least one computer
savvy student is a member of each group.
