Frequently Asked Questions

(Q) Why do my wrestlers lose morale when using the roster split?
(A) The roster split is not the same as the 'brand extension' used in the real-life WWE. The roster splitter is purely a different way to organise your roster. Therefore, if you create 'Raw' and 'Smackdown' splits, and split your TV shows accordingly, you are essentially halving the amount of work each wrestler gets, which will cause their drop in morale. For example, if you have Brock Lesnar as a main eventer on your Smackdown brand, and have him only wrestle on 2 Smackdowns that month, in actual fact you've booked 10 shows (2 Smackdowns, 4 Raws, and 4 episodes of Heat) where he has not been involved. His morale will therefore go down, as you're not using him as much as a main eventer should be used. As a rule of thumb, main eventers should appear on one third of your shows, everyone else should be on at least once in every seven shows.

(Q) Can relationships change over time?
(A) New relationships will form at various points in the game, but existing relationships cannot change.

(Q) What do the relationships mean?
(A) Friendship, Dislike, and Hate are obvious. Loyalty usually applies to either trainers and students, or long-time tag partners, and is basically a more intense version of friendship. Blood relative is similar, except that it only applies to parents or siblings. Love is for long-term non-marital relationships or marriages.

(Q) What do the alter-egos do?
(A) Alter-egos allow you to keep track of former gimmicks, and also alternate spellings of names. The purpose is two-fold. Firstly, when you search for a wrestler from the Other Workers screen, and the name you typed is not found, EWR will search the database and list potential alter-egos that you could use. This is handy for workers like Sean Waltman, who's ring name changes regularly (X-Pac, Pac, Syxx, Syxx-Pac, etc). Secondly, every time you change a workers name, it is registered in the database. So, if you've been playing for several years and cannot remember who you renamed as "The Masked Destroyer", you can go to the Meeting screen and ask Sophie for all the alter-egos of that person. She will then give you a list of previous identities, so you can find out who that worker was originally. WARNING - If you give a Mr.A the same name as one of Mr.B's alter-egos, EWR assumes that Mr.A is now playing the same role and will link him to Mr.B's alter-ego database. For example, if you change 'Al Snow' to 'Dude Love', and future name changes you make to him will not be logged in Al Snow's database, but will go in Mick Foley's instead, as that is where the Dude Love character is saved. For that reason, it is advised that you do not give people the same name as another worker's alter-ego.

(Q) If one of my workers is contracted to two other promotions, does that mean he will sometimes become unavailable?
(A) No. The only time a healthy worker under contract with you will not be available is when he is touring with a Japanese promotion. A system was considered where a worker would not be able to work for two promotions on the same day, but this was scrapped; while it was realistic, it made the gameplay worse, as it became too complex for the user to follow.

(Q) I want to sign a worker who is touring Japan to a written contract. Is this possible?
(A) While they have Japanese commitments, no worker will sign a written contract under any circumstance. However, each Japanese promotion announces a new roster annually, so workers may lose their Japanese commitments then, and therefore be eligible to sign to a written contract.

(Q) If i hold a stable interview, will i have to pay each member even if they do not appear in any other segments?
(A) Yes. If you hold an interview with a 20-man stable, you will have to pay all 20 people their pay-per-appearance value.

(Q) How do i know which workers are eligible to be used in Authority Angles.
(A) All non-wrestlers and any worker with an authority-related gimmick (such as Evil Boss) will be selectable as authority figures.

(Q) Why are my pictures not working?
(A) Worker pictures must be kept in the PICS folder, company logos in the LOGOS folder, and Internet banners in the BANNERS folder. The primary reason why a picture does not show up is that the file name is too long. All filenames must be a maximum of 20 characters. If you add a filename of 21 characters, you will end up with .JP at the end, not .JPG, and so the game will not be able to find the picture correctly. Please see the installation document EWRevenge_Install.txt that comes with the game for the correct names of fantasy and japanese promotions. NOTE - if you are using the RaveX-collected worker pictures, some of the file names may need changing. While every effort was made to synchronise the two databases, some differences will have made it through.

(Q) How do i add pictures?
(A) Firstly put the pictures you want to add in the correct folder. You can add them to the game via the File Editor so that they show up games started from that point on. If you have already started a game, you can add pictures to people you have signed from the Roster \ Staff screens. You cannot add pictures to workers who you haven't signed.

(Q) What are the ideal sizes for pictures?
(A) Currently, i recommend using 150x150 pixels for worker pictures, 100x100 pixels for company logos, and 756x73 pixels for Internet banners.

(Q) How do i get people to accept offers when they are under written contract?
(A) Workers will only be open to bids during the last 3 months of their contract. You know this is the case when your scout (from the Meeting screen) tells you that it is rumoured their contract is coming to an end. In most cases, you can get past any objections a worker has to signing by offering them more and more money. There are some exceptions - for example, no matter how much you offer, no Global main eventer is going to leave to join a backyard federation. However, in most cases, a worker will have a price at which they will accept your offer.

(Q) I was using the editor and it crashes, what can i do?
(A) The most common cause of this is that you are trying to edit save game data. The Editor will NOT work with save game data, only with proper data files. For example, the editor only allows you to give a promotion a positive amount of money to begin with. If you try to edit a game you are currently playing, in which your promotions is in debt, it will crash the editor as it has no way of displaying negative amounts of money. If you are using proper data files, then you should have no trouble with the editor.

(Q) My game keeps freezing, what can i do?
(A) As noted elsewhere in the guide, if you have a lot of data and a slow machine, it can take a while for the game to load. This is particularly true when you start a new game, and for the first few days (as all the CPU feds are signing wrestlers). If you hit ctrl-alt-del during this time, or quit the game some other way, you are guaranteed to corrupt the data. To my knowledge, the game has never crashed of its own accord during the loading phase, so you are advised to simply wait for it to finish. This may take in excess of 20 minutes if you have a particularly slow machine, but as i have said before, EWR is a powerful game and needs a powerful machine to run on. If you have not exited the game incorrectly, have waited a long time, and the loading screen appears to be frozen, then there is the possibility that you have uncovered a glitch, possibly as a result of corrupting the data somehow. I should stress that i play the game a lot when programming (in order to test stuff), and i have never once had the game freeze on me. Therefore, it is more than likely that if you encounter a freeze, you have somehow corrupted the data by doing some illegal operation. If you are sure that you have followed all of the above tips correctly, then you should mail me at adamryland@hotmail.com and i will try to help find the glitch.

(Q) I have good match quality and crowd reactions, but my overall rating for the match is much lower. Why is that?
(A) As explained elsewhere in the guide, the overall rating is calculated by getting the average of the two ('overall = (quality + crowd \ 2)'), but other factors can then lower the overall rating. Examples are poor commentary teams or low production values. There is also a random (1 in 25) chance that your show will just not 'click' for whatever reason, and this will lower the rating.

(Q) I have some great ideas for the game...
(A) Please use the Suggestions Forum on the message board, do not mail me directly. You may think you have the greatest, most original idea ever, but i can almost 100% guarantee that it's been thought of \ suggested before, and i do not want to have to mail 25 different people to tell them that.

(Q) One of my wrestlers is complaining that another is working too stiff. What can i do?
(A) Nothing, it is one of the side effects of having stiff workers on your roster.

(Q) What does the development camp do?
(A) It allows workers to work on their act, and so raise their overness, etc. After a while, they will be unable to learn any more, and keeping them in the development camp will have no effect. Talk to your Development Camp booker to learn when this has occured.

(Q) What's the point of donating to charity?
(A) It gives you a nice warm glow inside.

(Q) Why can't i select Hell In A Cell as a match?
(A) Your promotion's risk must be at a certain level before you can access some mathes. For example, if your risk level is at 40%, you won't be able to get barbed wire matches, Hell In A cell, etc.

(Q) How do i assign wrestlers to my training camp?
(A) You can't. When active (which means with facilities and a trainer) for an entire year, the training camp generates new workers to your roster. If you want to develop existing workers, you need to send them to your development territory.

(Q) Nobody will participate in Buck Naked matches, how do i get them to?
(A) Only certain women will do these matches, generally the ones who don't have the skills to get over and so see a ultra-gimmicky match like this to be their ticket to fame. (PS: Get A Life)

(Q) Do staff members' talent change?
(A) Announcers' talent can increase or decrease over time.

(Q) Does the Merchandise screen affect sales?
(A) No. The merchandise rankings have no real affect on sales, it is purely to show you who the most marketable workers on your roster are. Therefore, if you fired Sting who was shown as being responsible for 50% of your sales, that does not mean you will lose 50% of your merchandise sales. It simply means you'll be selling a highly-marketable figure.

(Q) I disagree with the statistics of this wrestlers, why is...
(A) Any statistics are subjective. If you don't like them, there's an editor in the game that you can use. Please don't mail me with your long, drawn-out explanation of why your favourite indi wrestler should have 100% brawling because 'he is really kool and usez chairz and barb wir and he sets peepol on fire and he jumps off hi places onto peeple", because i'm not interested.

(Q) What program was EWR made with? \ How can i make a game like EWR?
(A) EWR was made with Visual Basic, which you can either buy from most good computer software shops, or download from the Microsoft site (although i believe it is an old version on there). Making a game like EWR isn't particularly complex, but it does require you to first of all learn the basics of computer programming (which i would recommend you do by taking a course at college) and secondly to put a lot of hours in to do the coding. You can probably make a very basic wrestling simulator in under 2 months if you know what you are doing, but a really good simulator will take months, if not years to write properly.

(Q) Who is Inigo Montoya mentioned in the Gimmicks section?
(A) Do yourself a favour and get a copy of Rob Reiner's excellent "The Princess Bride", and all will become clear.
