..."the distance to here"...

" a part of live which i am really grateful for is our ability to reiventing ourselves in every record. Not so much as reinvent consciously or with a concept, but our songwritting process is so connected to who we are as people and we are growing, we're changing. we're never gonna be a band about manufacturing something simply because is successful. That was the thing about "secret samadhi". it was a record to show the world that we could change, expose different parts of our personalities and experiment. And we were Free as people to do what we want. overly, unchanged by commercial success, we've been able to mainatin our real soul that way. tha's what I am most proud of about "the distance to here". it sounds more , to me, the emergency and energy of our first record which was a record made by 4 guys from the middle of nowhere, no success, nothing. i think what i did on this record to get there...i disconnected myself from the whole idea of +live+ , just completelly went by nyself to the desert, in a camping with my accoustic guitar. completely disconnected in a world that wsa more pure and baring, ground zero. that's how i feel about "the distance to here"

..."audiences around the world"...

"it's been growing and it's been getting pretty much the same all around the world. it used to be much more in the u.s. and australia, and now canada and all over europe. we've been in europe for some promotional tour and also some festivals in june/july. that was amazing. hoe people have started tfound out about +live+. it's so exciting, they seem to know every song. it's started to become a smaller world for me, which is fun for us because we've just made a record that we're trying to say 'the world ain't that big place, it's one soul , we 're one people. we go out there as +live+ and we see that at first hand. that music itself can connect people from all different countries, races, whatever. it's fun that way to see that everything we talk about actually animate in rock n' roll."

..."exposure of his spirituality in the press"...

"over the last 2 years, especially with "secret samamdhi" i did a website. it was very exposee. it was an experiment 'coz i really had this tendency to be an open book about everything in my life. what i've learnt is that there are elements of my personal life now i'm concerned with keeping private because i feel it's my right as a person. also something i need to do to continue to be creative , to feel like i can go away and disconnect from the world in a way it allows me a soverty to keep me doing what i'm doing. yeah we're pretty private people that way. we have great families that give us alot of personal support. we're pretty wacky that way. and i think it's because we had focused so hardcore in the music. the band that inspired us as teenagers, like r.e.m. and U2. they were bands you could fall in love with them but at the same time you had the sense that they were their own thing and they kept things private and they had to be that in order to maintain their realness as a band.so, i think a lot of that comes from who we were influenced by what we've seen our idols do. how they react.
