Need some ideas to help stay away from genetically engineered foods?
Check out some ideas we have come up with for you to take action in your
own neighborhood!
Bring the Issue to Town Meeting or Town Council:
Work to pass a moratorium on the planting or releasing of genetically
engineered crops in your community. This allows for towns to prove their
autonomy and the power of local governance.
Collect GE Free Landowner/Farmer Pledges:
With GE grass and trees on the horizon, everyone is a target for the biotech
industry. Reach out to your fellow community members and collect GE Free
Landowner/Farmer Pledges to create de facto moratorium zones.
Talk to Farmers in Your Town:
Create a friendly dialogue with farmers in your area about GMO’s.
Ask them not to grow GMO crops. If all farmers agree you have a de-facto
Moratorium/GE Free Zone!
Write and Speak to Your Local Officials:
Share with them your concern for your community and farmers and the risks
of GMOs.
Create a GE Free School Program in your area:
This program concentrates on educating children and the general school
population. Expand work with local groups; promote sustainable agriculture
education and action in schools, as well as promoting GE Free lunch programs.
Launch a GE Free Restaurants Campaign in Your Area:
Restaurants that pledge not to use genetically engineered ingredients
in their foods will receive a certificate.
