Project Big Ugly CJ
This webpage will document my progress in building up a 1980 Jeep CJ-7, purchased June 16, 2003.
My goal for Big Ugly is to have a capable trail rig, that is still capable of driving on the roads when needed for bad weather situations (snow).
Condition at purchase:
Runs good, not street legal. 258, 3spd, D20. New Painless wiring harness partially installed. Fiberglass front fenders and windshield frame, fenders cracked. Camo paint job. Herculined tub. Solid frame, floor needs patched under drivers seat. Clutch linkage needs adjusted or replaced. Drivers side hub wont unlock. No top or doors. Dash included with sale but not installed. Upgraded ignition. 4.5" RE Extreme Duty lift kit w/DT3000 hydros freshly installed. New Warn 9000i winch and Warn front bumper. Brand new 32x11.5" Dunlop mud tires.
The Plan:
- Repair/replace clutch linkage
- Repaired 6/18/03 (Just needed some adjustment)
- Repair floor and reinstall drivers side seat - Repaired 6/24/03 (Temporarily, still needs welded)
- Finish installing wiring- 8/17/03
- Install wipers and mirrors- 8/18/03
- Install dash and gauges- 7/7/03
- Repair/replace locking hub(s)- Rebuilt 7/2/03
- Install full roll cage
- Install CB radio- 7/22/03
- Install bikini top- 7/24/03
- Install hand throttle- 7/30/03
- Onboard air
