This tutorial is for the Lake.class Applet with a Frame
Overlay. The Lake.class file will allow you to do an overlay,
however, the lake.class one will not. Be sure that your web provider
does not change the capital L to a small l......if that occurs, just
rename the file at your site in your file manager.
As with the lake applet, you can use any image. First make any
changes to the main image that you may want to make. Be sure to crop
the image back so that what you see at the bottom is what you want
reflected back. If your image has water in it, you will want to cut
it back. The class file will still reflect for you.
The size of the image in the applet code as a rule is
two times the height minus 20 or less.....so that the
entire image is reflected. But, you may like the effect with
less water, it will have to be greater than the main image's actual
height, but can really be any height in between.
Now for the Frame :
![]() This is the
main image I used. It is 349 in width by 248 in
height......What we want is a frame that is a total size of 349 in width
by twice the height......or 496 total height.
One catch, and this is
the tricky part, we need to allow for 20px of transparency at the
bottom. I like to use the image to draw color to the frame so here
is what i would do. Make a copy of the origional image and size it
to 349 x 476. Add your borders and then resize it back to 349 x
476. Use your rectangle tool to trace around the main image part,
click on selections/invert and the frame will be selected. Then all
you need do it copy and paste as a new image.
Now you have your frame
part that is minus 20 px in size. Make a transparency at the 349 x
496 size and very carefully paste the frame into it leaving the 20 px of
transparency at the bottom. If you use the guide numbers at the
bottom of the screen you can get an exact match. Be careful not to
leave any transparency at the top or
sides.
At this point you can
add any tubes to decorate it and then export it as a
gif.
![]() you know how you double the image size and subtract some from it,
just play with the height and width until you don't see any
more gray at the bottom. If your side is off a little,
you can make it a little smaller too. Here is your code
so you can try it out. I am also including a copy in the zip with
the class files which i have enclosed.
I hope you could follow
this......
it is a bit tricky, but
worth it!
Enjoy !
For Stationery Use:
<applet codebase="http://yourwebsite addy/ "
code=Lake.class width=315
height=330>
<param name="image" value="http://yourwebsite addy/applets/image name.jpg"> <param name="overlay" value="http://your website addy/applets/framename.gif"></applet> For Webpages Use:
<applet code=Lake.class
width=315 height=330>
<param name="image" value="http://yourwebsite addy/applets/image name.jpg"> <param name="overlay" value="http://your website addy/applets/framename.gif"></applet> As always if you have any questions or problems,
don't hesitate to ask Karen, Shari or any of
the other group members for assistance.
We are all glad to help !
Hugs,
Karen
