Levi L. Snelson was born in TN, probably Jefferson Co. He was on theaccountbooks of Meremac Iron Works in Crawford Co., MO. It is possible that heworked at the Rapid Forge Furnace near Bainbridge, OH and came toCrawfordCo. to work for Thomas James in building the new furnace at Meremac. TheRapid Forge Furnace of Ohio was owned in part by Thomas James and wassituated within a few miles of where the Snelsons lived in Ross Co., OH.Itis known that Levi was a wagoneer with the Meremac Iron Works.Levi acquired much land and held several offices in the following years.Hewas one of the first Magistrate Judges in Crawford Co. and presided asPresident at the May term in 1838. Levi was also Justice of the Peace ofthat county 1836-1838.The Will of Levi Louis Snelson as copied by Georgia Snelson Sallee,g-grandaughter.To his heirs; Amos Leonard Snelson, Henry Snelson, & Jasper Snelson, alsomywife Mary Snelson.I, Levi L. Snelson of the County of Crawford and State of Missouri, beingweak of body though of sound [mind] and disposing [memory] and beingdesirous of disposing of the worldy goods with which God has blessed me,Ido in the presence of God Almighty and here make public and declare thisismy last Will and Testament.I hereby sign my body to the dust from where it comes, my soul to God whogave it.1st I will that my funeral expenses and all my just debts be paid.2nd I will and bequeath that all my Estate and Personal Estate and allmyland and Yankee Branch and Mill Property be sold for the payments of mydebts. Should it be insufficient for those payments that my Executor sellextra land off the lower part of my home farm to pay the rest of my debts.3rd I will and bequeath that my Dearly Wife, Mary Snelson, and my threeyoungest children; Henry, Leonard, & Jasper have enough of my home farmfortheir own benefits. My wife having the control of the farm during herlife.4th I will and bequeath that if my wife should marry again that she getsachilds part of my Estate and that my home farm be sold in Ten yearsthereafter or as my Executor may think best for them of my estate.6th I Will that my real property shall be sold eight months after mydeathand that my son Isaac shall have control of the said Mill that length oftime and pay himself for his labor with the said Mill procedence and allhisexpenses.
