Randolph Bernard Tacy

1Randolph Tacy from nonrelated researcher, cchristou@emgbalt.com. "As you know Randolph was quite a character. He invented his past so that is what causes so many different stories about his origin. He started the rumors most likely. But what I have in my notes is the following: The 1860 census says he was born in Louisiana. In 1880 his daughter said he was born in France. A soldier of the 19th Virginia Calvery recalled how Dr. Tacy had claimed to have been a surgeon in the French Navy and was a fine swordsman and showed the wounds that covered his body down to his waist. He drilled the soldier boys in the use of swords. Yes I have been out of the research on this family for years now. As you may recall I traced this family for my friends as it was their ancestors. If you found a deed with Randolph and Robert I would pursue it. I have really not believed that Randolph was from France. I think the story was a fabrication of his. I think if he was old enough he would have said he served with Napoleon. He was a heavy drinker and a big story teller, someone you would love to talk to in the bar but not someone youwould trust his "facts". Makes for great drama though. I believe he was born in the US and possibly his parents were French, I had always hoped to find a Tacy fammily living somewhere in Louisiana with a little boy named Randolph but no luck. 1Obituary of Nelson Thomas. "From the WAYNESBURG REPUBLICAN Newspaper of November 1922 Civil War Veteran Passes Away at Age of 92 Years Nelson Thomas, aged 91 years, a Civil War Veteran and one of Greene County's most widely known citizens, died Thursday night November 9 at 10 o'clock at his home at Holbrook. His death resulted from a stroke of apoplexy suffered the preceeding Sunday night and he never regained consciousness. Mr. Thomas served through the Rebellion as a member of Company A Fifth West Virginia Infantry and had spent practically all his life in the Holbrook neighborhood. He was a frequent visitor at the county capital and was in town only a few days before being stricken ill. He was a member of the Christian Church. Mr Thomas was married three times, his first wife being Catherine Slusher, his second Catherine Trippett, and the third Carolyn Ankrom. All three are deceased. He is survived by the following children, Mrs. Elizabeth Daniels of Los Angelos Ca., Mrs. Harley Huffman and Patrick (should be Tapp) Thomas, both of Holbrook. One sister, Mrs. Sadie Church also survives. Funeral services conducted by Rev. D. R. Piper, Rogersville, were held from his late home Saturday morning at 10 o'clock.
