An authority on the subject of child abuse would be considered Dave Pelzer, author of the book A Child Called It. Pelzer recounts in his book his own story, which involves his childhood of emotional and physical abuse. His story provides astounding evidence that had school workers been able to properly diagnose emotional abuse he may not have suffered as long as he did. It was only when authorities caught him stealing and saw physical marks on his body that Pelzer was “saved” from his parents.
