The Story of the Dorx

THE DORX

When I was in 9th grade, I had Ms. Bacher's enrichment class. One day I was sitting and talking to Bob Crossetti about me trying to impress someone. He told me that life is too short and high school goes by to fast to spend your time trying to impress others. He told me to be myself and have as much fun as I could. Later that year, he also said dorks get some and nerds don't get any.

I really took those words to heart. The next year, in French 2, I was in class with Jake Zetek and Mare Barbine. I knew both of them but didn't talk to them much. We were talking about SNL one day, and I meshed the two things Bob told me, told them, and hence the first three Dorx started the group.

Over the next two years, new Dorx were added rapidly. Anyone who was open-minded, cool, fun, largely unaffected by how others perceived them, and of course, able to get some, became Dorx. The Summer of the Dorx, lasting from May until September of 2001, was the Dorx at their best.

In the months that followed the Summer of the Dorx, several things happened. Some dorx had problems with others, a portion the dorx went away to college, and other dorx just had their own issues. A huge fight in January of 2002 nearly destroyed the idea forever.

Who knows what kept the Dorx going. Perhaps it was Debra's refusal to let the idea go. Maybe it was Jake and Bill posting on the Dorx board when no one else even looked at the page. Maybe it was those who reamined at AP and referred to themselves as the Dorx. Perhaps it was reminiscing. Or maybe a combination of all of these factors. Regardless, it's hard to dispute that in the Summer of 2004, the Dorx returned.

Some of the faces have changed, but most of the original Dorx remain loyal to this idea, this group. With all of the Dorx having completed high school and now going through college, we are now all odler and wiser. Or maybe just older. Regardless, the Dorx are back!
