Resident Evil Online preview

Resident Evil, Capcom’s blockbuster survival horror franchise is ready to take the internet on with Resident Evil Online. The game promises unnerving gameplay even with other players on board. Here’s a few more details on what to expect late this year. Resident Evil Online takes place during the events of Resident Evil 2. Raccoon City is infected with the T-virus and countless citizens are turning into zombies left and right. But there aren’t any S.T.A.R.S. members or hot shot cops to help you out here. Players will take on the role of ordinary Raccoon City citizens. The cast of playable characters so far include a Raccoon City cop who’s failed the S.T.A.R.S. entry exam twice, a waitress, a plumber, a war veteran turned security guard, a reporter, a doctor, and a railway worker. Players aren’t exactly zombie-fighting material, which should make defending yourself against the undead tougher and scarier. To help out, each player will have special capabilities that adhere to his or her profession, such as a doctor being able to heal, etc. Locals that players will venture through include a subway station, hospital, restroom, experiment room, and a forest.

REO also features a bunch of non-playable characters that can do a multitude of things during an adventure. NPCs can be saved, help you in a battle, get you to new locals, run away in fear. But before you think that other citizens are always there to lend you a hand, NPCs could also be infected and turn into zombies that’ll wind up attacking you.

REO will support 4-player simultaneous network play and will start each player off alone, or together, depending on play scenarios that have yet to be revealed. If Capcom can pull off the same fear along with some new shocks, the online world has everything to fear.
