St. George (formerly Nicholas) Antiochian Orthodox Church - Montreal, Quebec

Founded in 1899 by St. Raphael, this parish soon split into two separate communities, one in the Greek Archdiocese, the other in the Antiochian; the Greek parish retained the name St. Nicholas. Only recently, with a new building, did the Antiochian community change its name to "St. George."

A number of future hierarchs have served this parish. One of the earliest priests to serve here was Archimandrite Ephraim (Deebs), future Metropolitan of Akkar. Later, Bishop Aftimios (Ofiesh) ordained Archimandrite Emmanuel (Abo-Hatab) for this parish; Fr. Emmanuel was later consecrated hierarch of the Syrian church in America. The future Archbishop Michael (Shaheen) of Toledo also served this parish as a priest.
