Danielle 'Dani' Moonstar

Born on a ranch outside Boulder, Colorado, Danielle Moonstar grew up happily with her parents until she was about 10. At this time Moonstar began to have nightmares as a result of her emerging mutant powers which she could not control. The nightmares were actually visible images of people`s greatest fears, though this was unknown at the time.
One night, she created one of these nightmares of her parent`s death only to be followed shortly by her parents disappearance in the nearby mountains. Believing them to have been killed, her dreams were haunted thereafter by a vision of a demonic bear, which she believed to be responsible for their deaths.
Fleeing her home, Moonstar was raised for the next few years by her grandfather, Black Eagle - a Cheyenne chief and shaman. As her powers continued to manifest themselves, Black Eagle contacted Professor Xavier to request he take over Moonstar`s training. Before Professor Xavier arrived, Black Eagle was killed.
Joining with several other young mutants gathered under Xavier`s guidance, Black Eagle`s killer was defeated. While studying under Xavier`s watchful eye as a member of the New Mutants, Moonstar, who was given the codename Psyche but later changed it to Mirage, not only learned how to keep her powers under control, but also learned how to create images other than those of the objects of people`s fears.
With Black Eagle gone however, there was nothing to keep the demonic bear away from Moonstar and it sought her out, attacking her outside Xavier`s mansion. Nearly killed during the fight with the bear, Moonstar was saved when the other members of the New Mutants managed to defeat the Bear and through the use of Magik`s powers, her parents were released from the bear form. Reunited with her parents, Moonstar recovered fully with the aid of the Morlock Healer.
Afterwards, Moonstar and the New Mutants were kidnaped and taken to Asgard, the interdimensional home of the Norse gods. While she was there, Moonstar rescued a winged horse from hunters. Moonstar had an immediate psychic rapport with the horse, which she named Brightwind after her pony on Earth, and the horse selected her to be his rider. Brightwind was one of the herd of flying horses belonging to Odin, ruler of Asgard, that are ridden by his female warriors, the Valkyrie. The bonding between Moonstar and Brightwind bestowed part of the Odinpower upon her, and she thus became endowed with the Valkyries` power to perceive the coming of death in the form of a mark on those individuals about to die. When Moonstar and the others were returned to Earth, Brightwind accompanied her.
Upon her return, Moonstar felt lost as she learned Professor Xavier was not returning to the school and Magneto was the new headmaster. During the Secret Wars, Moonstar was killed along with the other New Mutants after she witnessed death marks on her friends and then watched the Beyonder kill them. Her faith was restored in herself through a visit from Thor in the guise of a frog - a form he had been trapped in by Loki - though the other New Mutants were not restored so easily.
After the incident with the Beyonder, the New Mutants were transfered to the Massachusetts Academy, but Moonstar chose to go home to her parents in Colorado. While there, Moonstar ran into an old friend, Pat Roberts, who she had betrayed when her powers were first emerging. When Pat was injured and stuck in a blizzard, Moonstar saw the death mark on him and fought Death in the form of an old gunfighter. Moonstar defeated Death, but the next day Death returned in the form of an old indian woman who convinced her to let him go.
When Magneto realised he was tricked into transferring the New Mutants, he confronted Emma Frost and through mindprobes it was determined that they wished to return with Magneto, though remaining rivals with the Hellions. Moonstar returned to assist in the rescue of the New Mutants from the White Queen and return them back to Xavier`s. It was during this period that Moonstar`s ability to make her spirit images real emerged after an encounter with the High Evolutionary during the Evolutionary War, when Dani was "evolved" by one of the Evolutionary`s machines.
When Hela attempted to take over Asgard, Dani and the other Valkyrior were infected with a mystical fever. Hela planned to use Moonstar to gather humans to her forces to defeat Thor. Transported back to Asgard, Moonstar fell under the sway of Hela and nearly killed Odin. Hela was defeated by the combined forces of the New Mutants and the Asgardians, and the New Mutants were returned to Earth - all except Moonstar who chose to stay behind, hoping to repair the damage as a Valkyrie.
Moonstar was eventually exiled from Asgard, and her winged horse Brightwind was renamed Darkwind. Found on Earth by the mutant terrorist Reignfire, who had recently reorganized the terrorist group called the Mutant Liberation Front, Moonstar agreed to join the group. Prior to this Dani had secretly joined the international law enforcement agency S.H.I.E.L.D, intending to infiltrate the M.L.F. as a deep cover operative and betray the group from within.

To maintain her cover, Moonstar was forced to battle X-Force alongside other members of the Front. Dani also secretly became an informant for Cable, at one time assisting him when he was tracking down Feral. She also helped the other mutants that were captured during the Younghunt when they were attempting escape from the Gamesmaster`s prison. After the M.L.F. and X-Force battled Prime Sentinels during Operation Zero Tolerance, Moonstar left the M.L.F. and joined X-Force.
During their encounter with the Damocles Foundation, Dani was transmorphed by Arcadia, giving her the ability to channel quantum energies which allowed her to affect matter at a subatomic level. Dani could see these quantum energies as interconnected particles and waves, and she could affect those connections, changing the physical nature of all things, including an electromagnetic field such as the one generated by Magneto during X-Force`s encounter with him in Genosha.

Moonstar is a mutant who has the psionic ability to create three-dimensional images of the greatest fears and desires a person may have. These images can be seen by everyone in their vicinity.
At first, she could not control her image projecting power and would draw and project images without trying to. She has since gained control through training and maturity.
Moonstar can now cause her three-dimensional images to become tangible entities of psionic force.
She can now create "psionic arrows" of psionic energy, which she can fire from bows as if they were material objects. She can also create the bow out of psionic energy. She can use these psionic arrows to cause a victim to feel intense emotional pain connected with an event he or she remembers. She can also use the arrows to paralyze her victim's brain, rendering them unconscious.
Moonstar can also project images of objects of fear or desire from the minds of animals, but only the animal from which she derives the image will be able to see it.
Dani can establish a telepathic rapport with higher animals, including primates, felines, birds, wolves, and her Asgardian winged horse Darkwind, enabling her to sense their emotions and perceive images in their minds. Dani can communicate telepathically with her friend and former New Mutant Wolfsbane when Wolfsbane is in her transitional half-lupine form or has transformed into a wolf.
Dani was once endowed with the Valkyrie power to perceive and sense the coming of death. She could perceive a "deathglow" surrounding a person in serious danger of dying. She has not been shown using these Valkyrie abilities since her exile from Asgard and has lost them.
Recently Dani's powers have taken a new turn after an encounter with the reality warping mutant, Arcadia. As a result of this encounter, Dani could now tap into the Quantum Energy that exists in the universe and alter matter at a molecular level.
Beginning during the period when the High Evolutionary removed the powers of mutants, Dani reported that hers were actually changing. The outcome of this seems to be a melding of her mirages and the deathglow of the Valkyrior. Dani can sense and then display the events of a person's death. The drawback to this ability is Dani then experiences the person's death and feels their physical and emotional trauma.

"I am still a Cheyenne. I am still a mutant, I am still passionate about the thinks I believe in....And the people I care for. But I'm also different. I'm stronger now. I'm willing to risk my own life if necessary....To undermine this deadly terrorist organization. Back then Sam would've popped in Star Trek II into the VCR, and I would've been too busy laughing at Shatner and Montalban to hear the message. 'The Good of the Many Outweighs the Needs of the Few. Or the One'. I was younger. My own problems mattered more to me then the bigger picture. Professor Xavier knew though, Didn't he? He knew the potential I had even if I didn't"
