Story begins…Luis is her body guard and she’s living with him, stil, at her cottage.

“Night Luis.” Sheridan smiled as she hugged Luis and turned to head into her bedroom.

“Good night Sheridan. Have happy dreams.” Luis smiled at her and allowed her to go to bed. Their hug had become a ritual. They needed a hug to get to bed. It wasn’t going to be easy when they had to split up, because, although it was unknown to the other, they needed each other. It was a game and race to see who would be the first to admit their feelings. But for now, their hug was the roll of the dice, which would lead to further advance in the game.

Sheridan smiled to herself and remembered the past week. It had been wonderful having Luis live with her, but it was beginning to get harder and harder to admit it. She always would try to be mad at him, but now that was becoming impossible. Her stubbornness had begun to fade and it worried her that someone could make her do that. No one in her life could ever make her change and she wasn’t about to change for someone…however this seemed to be happening without choice. She shut her eyes and knew what she had to do. She was going to listen to her very favorite CD, FLY, by the Dixie Chicks! She put the disc in and hit ‘repeat’ on song three, Cowboy Take me Away. It was what she had always dreamed of. For the perfect man to whisk her away to heaven and be happy. All her hopes and dreams danced in her head – it was a game and to get to the finish she needed to have love.

It was about 2:46 when Luis looked at his watch and her light little sobs coming from Sheridan’s room. It was his job to make her feel better and protect her. It wasn’t just a professional job now, it was personal. He raised from his sleeping place and quickly ran into Sheridan’s room. He saw her crying in her sleep. Instinctly he crawled next to her in the bed and held her. She was still asleep but this had been what his heart craved since the moment he saw her. He heard the song play still. The chorus and Sheridan’s sobbed had begun to get to him.

Cowboy take me away
Fly this girl as high as you can into the wild blue
Set me free oh I pray
Closer to heaven above
And closer to you
Closer to you

“Sweet song.” He whispered into her hair. He felt her begin to stir and raised her head to meet his eyes. “I’m here.” He whispered as he wiped a tear off her tear streaked face.

“Thank you.” Sheridan sighed as she got up.

“Is there anything the matter, Sheridan?” Luis asked sweetly. “About what?” Luis asked carefully.

“Well…I can’t tell you…It won’t come true then.” Sheridan grinned, “A dream is a wish your heart makes.”

“When your fast asleep.” Luis finished, “And in dreams you can avoid all heartaches, whatever you wish for is true.”

Sheridan giggled sleepily, “You watched Cinderella too, huh?”

“Indeed. That was Theresa’s favorite song for the longest time.” Luis offered, “You like that movie…all little girls love that movie.”

“Yeah.” Sheridan sighed.

“So tell me about your dream anyway…I can help you try to make it come true.” Luis tried.

“Don’t make false promises.” Sheridan stated, smiling, remembering her dream about Luis as a cowboy taking her far away in the wide open spaces. [oh these Dixie Chicks are too funny…] “I had a dream about a cowboy taking me away.” “Cute. Who was the cowboy?”

“I’d rather not say.” Sheridan yawned, “It’s silly.”

“Hank?” Luis asked nervously.

“No.” Sheridan answered too soon, “I mean, Hank wouldn’t look good in a cowboy hat.” “It is. Swear.” Sheridan said innocently

“You shouldn’t swear, Sheridan.” Luis laughed.

“That was corny.” Sheridan glared, “Besides, the cowboy I’m dreaming of is not existing.”

“Oh.” Luis paused, “Sorry.”

“Don’t worry.” Sheridan tried to smile, “it’s beyond anyone’s control.”

“Don’t say that.” Luis hugged Sheridan. He closed his eyes and savored her scent, the smell had become so natural to him. It was kind of like when a dog smells something and knows it’s okay. He knew that Sheridan would make him okay. “I’m sure your cowboy will come one day.” He laughed lightly, “Just as I’ll find my cowgirl.”

“Luis.” Sheridan said seriously.

“What?”

“I have to tell you something.” She sighed, “and don’t say anything when I’m talking…when I’m done I don’t want you to even say something.”

“That made no sense.”

“I know. Anyway, shhh up. Okay…I think…I like you.”

“Of course you like me…everyone likes Luis!”

“No…I mean, I think I like, like you!”

“Oh.” Luis grinned, “You like like me. I see.”

“You see?”

“Yeah…I see that you like-like me, and I like-like you.”

“You do?” Sheridan asked confused.

“Of course! You know that! I mean, I’ve told you so many times…and think about it…the past six months? Why would I have asked you out and stuff?”

“But then why would you say you used me and stuff?”

“But I never said that.” Luis said confused.

“But…I think I believe you. But I don’t…this is all getting me confused.”

“You should believe me. I have no reason to lie to you.”

“This is true.” Sheridan paused, “You’re so true…I do believe you…but you have to understand I don’t want to.”

“I like you even though you’re stubborn.” Luis smiled easing up tension.

“I want to become a singer.” Sheridan stated.

“Pardon me?”

“I want to become a singer.” Sheridan repeated.

“I heard that part…but could you explain why?” Luis paused, “and…”

“You see, I’ve always loved singing…and I don’t have the greatest voice…but I want to sing! I think…that…that’s what I want to do. I want to sing.”

“I believe you can do whatever you want to do. But what made that come up now?”

“You…and this song…and I’ve written songs…and I can sing them…I want to sing.”

“Okay…” Luis eyed her suspiciously, “I’ve never heard you sing, care to sing?”

“No.” Sheridan blushed. “I’m half asleep. I change my mind.”

“That was quick.”

“I want to be…”

“You’re 26…and you’re deciding what you want to be?”

“your point, sir?”

“Never mind. Proceed.”

“I want to be a mother. I want to learn how to care for a child and I want to be a wife.” Sheridan glowed with a discovery of self.

“That’s great. One day you’ll make a man very happy.”

“That day better come soon, ‘cause I’ve been waiting a long 26 years.” Sheridan sighed.

“I’m sure that man has been waiting a long 28.” Luis blushed at a realization to his implication.

“How old are you again?” Sheridan grinned.

“28.” Luis smiled.

“Ah.” She giggled inwardly, “Would you take me out tomorrow?”

“Sure…to do what?”

“Horseback riding.”

“Why? I don’t know how!”

“I’ll teach you…and it’s ‘cause I want to go far out into the country…maybe we can stay there for a while. A few days…it may through the drug lords off guard, y’know?”

“Good idea. Sure.” He smiled getting up. “Good night.” He said as he kissed her head.

“Wait.” Sheridan whispered grabbing at his hand.

“What?” Luis smiled at her touch.

“Stay here. I don’t want to be alone.” She sighed.

“Well…only because I don’t want you to be sad.” He smiled sitting back on her bed. “But…don’t you think…seeing as I told you I liked you…”

“We’re adults.”

“Sometimes we are.”

“Sometimes…stay, please.”

“Okay. But only because you said please.” Luis smiled as he snuggled himself on the edge of the bed.

“you can move closer you know?” Sheridan giggled.

“Okay. Thanks.” Luis yawned. “Go to bed.”

“thank you.”

They woke up in eachothers arms. Luis was first to wake up. He saw Sheridan resting on his chest. It was almost like it was what their subconciouses needed. “This like seems to be turning into love.” Luis sighed. He closed his eyes and savoured the feel of her skin close to his. Luis drifted back to sleep.

It was Sheridan that then woke up she stirred lightly and starred at his sleepy closed eyes, “I know what you mean.” She returned the comment. “I think I’m going to love you…and I think it may be hard to admit it to you one day…but I know I’m going to have to be honest with me…and I know these feelings are rooted by feelings much more than ‘liking’ you. I really care, y’know? You drive me crazy. You make me do things and feel things…Oh…and I promised myself I would love someone like you. And I did.” She paused and sang quietly, “Cowboy take me away…fly this girl as high as you can into the wild blue…set me free oh I pray…closer to heaven above and closer to you. Closer to you.” She finished as she kissed his sleeping lips. Luis continued to sleep but his mouth soon shaped out a smile.

Sheridan woke up and realized Luis wasn’t there. She felt an empty void as she sat up and glanced around. She saw his packed bag and felt a feeling of releif. “Luis…” She called. Luis walked in smiling, “begin packing, let’s go! I packed a picnic.”

“Really?”

“Would I lie?”

“No…okay..okay.”

“Sheridan…” Luis smiled as she began grabbing at close and stuffing it in a bag, “You sing wonderfully.”

She blushed as she smiled, “You heard me?”

“Yeah. You sing it really well.”

“Oh…what else did you hear?”

“You prepare wonderful speeches.” Luis grinned.

“Oh.” She sighed, “It’s true.”

“If it makes you feel any better…I think I am too.”

“You are?”

“yeah.”

“that’s good.” Sheridan said not knowing what to say. She turned around and began changing.

“Whoa, I’ll leave.”

“Don’t! It’s not like you haven’t seen it before.”

“true…but…”

“I’m not uncomfortable…don’t worry.” She smiled.

“okay.”

Sheridan finished pulling over her tank top and ran over to him. “Luis.”

“yes.”

“I wanted to give you soemthing.”

“What?” He asked as he began picking up her bags.

“A kiss.” Sheridan smiled. Luis met her half way and held her close. “This one’s real and I mean it.” Sheridan sighed as she leaned in and kissed him fully on the lips. “Just as I dreamed of.”

“you dreamed of me?”

“Of course! Who do you think my cowboy is?” Sheridan laughed.

“Sheridan…I totally don’t mean to ruin your dream…but…” “No buts. Don’t ruin my dream.” Sheridan stopped him and kissed him again.

“I don’t look good in cowboy hats.”

“Oh, yeah you do.”

Finally, Sheridan and Luis arrived at a really pretty ranch in the country. “This is beautiful…” Luis sighed as he looked at the horizon. “It’s so nice…how come you never come up here?”

“I don’t know. It’s no fun all alone. Ethan comes here with Gwen once and a while… Julian hates horses…Ivy doesn’t like the smell…No one comes here with me…” Sheridan attempted to smile as she droped her bags at the door.

“Who takes care of the horses when no one’s here?” Luis asked pointing to the stables.

“The man two ranches over. We pay him well…and he and his family are allowed to use our horses and stuff…so it works out well.”

“I see.” Luis smiled, “I’m dying to see inside!”

Sheridan grinned as she opened up the door. Luis’s jaw dropped at the amazing sight. “Like it?” Sheridan smiled.

“It’s amazing!” Luis laughed.

“That’s good. Upstairs there are five bedrooms…take your pick…but I get the one right at the end.”

“Okay.” Luis took their bags and brought them up.

“Let’s go riding for a bit. Bring a blanket? And a set of clothes…” Sheridan grinned, “And bring your swimming trunks…or speedos, whatever you use…”

“Okay. I’ll quickly prepare a picnic, too…”

“Sounds great!” Sheridan said as she left to pack a back-pack.

“Know how to ride?” Sheridan asked Luis as she sat up on her horse.

“A little. I learned a bit in the police accedemy.” Luis said as he hoped up on his horse.

“Good, ‘cause I can’t ride slow…let’s go!” Sheridan laughed as she began galloping away.

“Okay…” Luis laughed as he followed Sheridan. “Where are we going?”

“To my favorite place by the lake.” Sheridan looked at Luis who seemed to be having a little trouble, or he just looked uncomfortable, “It’s not that far…half an hour ride?” “WHAT?” Luis glarred, “That’s fine.”

“Come on, race you…” Sheridan dared playfully.

“Race me? I don’t even know where I’m going!” Luis said as Sheridan began taking off. “WAIT!” Luis followed and attempted to keep her pace.

Finally, they arrived near the lake. Sheridan tied her horse up to the little thing she had made as a child. [sorry, don’t know very much on horses] She took Luis’s horse and did the same.

Sheridan sat down on the blanket and began checking out what Luis brought for the picnic. “Oooh, this looks soo good!”

“Yep…it is.” Luis smiled as he bit into his sandwich, “Mama taught me how to make the sauce.”

“that’s where I’ve tasted it before!” Sheridan’s eyes twinkled in realization.

“probably.” Luis added, “So where are we going to sleep?”

“Here!” Sheridan laughed, “On the blanket…I brought one, and you brought one…”

“We’re camping?”

“No…we’re sleeping outside! Haven’t you ever done it, Luis?!”

“No.”

“Oh well, anyway, it’s so nice!”

“the grounds hard, though…”

“I know…it’s great! And at night time it’s so much fun to skinny dip!”

“pardon me?”

“Skinny dipping…come on luis…it’s not like you’ve never skinny dipped…”

“Well…never with someone!”

“Oh come on!” Sheridan tossed a piece of her sandwich at him playfully.

“You’re crazy…you are. I can’t believe you sleep on the…”

“It’s fun. Trust me, you’ll love it.” Sheridan looked through her back pack and pulled out a little boom box. “I have such a craving for listening to this song…” She brought out a tape and hit play. “But, Luis…I want you to dance with me…I’m sorry, but you’ll have to!” She smiled.

“I’d love to.” Luis stood up taking her hand and wrapped his arms around her. He heard Sheridan singing along to the song in his ear.

I said I want to touch the earth
I want to break it in my hands
I want to grow something wild, and unrully
I want to sleep on the hard ground
In the comfort of your arms
In a pillow of blue bonnets
In a blanket made of stars
Oh it sounds good to me
I said

Cowboy take me away
Fly this girl as high as she can into the wild blue
Set me free, oh I pray
Closer to heaven above and closer to you
Closer to you

I wanna walk not run
I wanna skip and not fall
I wanna look at the horizon
and not see a building standing tall
I wanna be the only one
From miles and miles
Except for maybe you
And your simple smiles
Oh it sounds good to me
Yes it sounds so good to me

Cowboy take me away
Fly this girl as high as she can into the wild blue
Set me free
Oh I pray
Closer to heaven above and closer to you
Closer to you

I said I wanna touch the earth
I wanna break it in my hands
I wanna grow something wild and unruly
Oh it sounds so good to me

Cowboy take me away
Fly this girl as high as she can into the wild blue
Set me freee oh I pray
Closer to heaven above and closer to you
Closer to you
Closer to you

Cowboy take me away
Closer to you

-Cowboy take Me Away : DIXIE CHICKS!

“Cowgirl, you’re insane.” Luis laughed as he gazed at Sheridan.

“Cowboy take me away…” She sung and returned the gaze.

“You’re so cute.” Luis smiled as he poked her nose, “Can I kiss you.”

“You can do whatever you want with me, Luis.” Sheridan smiled shyly.

“Oh, promises, promises…” Luis chuckled as he leaned down and placed a sweet kiss on her lips.

“That’s it?” Sheridan said coyly.

“Oh there’s much, much more.” Luis whispered as he placed his hand at the back of Sheridan’s head and kissed her with all the passion inside of him.

“Much, much better.” Sheridan giggled as she held him closer to her and kissed him sweetly. “wanna swim?”

“Sure.” Luis smiled and reluctantly removed his arms around her and took off his pants, revealing swim trunks.

“Ah. All planned.” Sheridan laughed, "well, as I told you, I love to skinny dip, so I’m all prepared too.” Luis tried to turn his head but Sheridan had already removed her shirt.

“very nice.” Luis blushed. He quickly, before he saw anymore, jumped into the lake. Sheridan soon followed.

“take off the trunks…it’s so much more fun.”

“I’ll take it off in a second…I’m afraid of fish…are there much here?”

“As long as you move they won’t come near you.” Sheridan stood and the water ended at her neck. She waded closer to Luis. “Am I making you nervous?”

“No…” Luis began, “It’s just that every time I see you…it’s just…”

“you hate me still.” Sheridan sighed as she turned away.

“No! I don’t Sheridan. You should know that! If I hated you why would I kiss you? Why would I flirt with you?”

“Because…”

“Because you know I like you…a lot.”

“It’s not enough!” Sheridan demanded as she turned back to him, “It’s not enough that…I always end up…”

“What?” Luis asked confused.

“You like me…all the guys I’ve known liked me…but they’ve never…”

“I love you Sheridan.” Luis confessed.

“You don’t.” Sheridan pouted as she smiled.

“I’ve loved you since our first date…I liked you a lot before that.” Luis smiled taking her in his arms.

“I love you too.” Sheridan cried as her tears slipped out of her eyes, “I fell in love with you since New Mexico…and…so much has happened since then…and I tried so hard to not love you…but I gave up…and thank god I gave up because now I know you love me too…and I’m the absolute happiest woman in the world.”

“Cowgirl, you’re such a cutie.” Luis laughed as he pulled her close and kissed her.

“Fly this girl as high as you can into the wild blue…” Sheridan sang.

“You are so adorable Sheridan.” Luis kissed her, but this time it turned him totally on.

“Are you going to take off your trunks yet?” Sheridan grinned. “I…er…can’t.” Luis blushed.

“Yeah you can!” Sheridan laughed as she dove into the water and pulled off his shorts.

“Did you just?”

“Yep.” She breathed holding up his shorts and then tossing them by their stuff.

“You’re crazy.” Luis laughed.

“Crazy for you…” Sheridan smiled as she pressed herself up to him and kissed his lips warmly.

“Er, Sheridan…I have a little.”

“I felt it, but we can fix that.” Sheridan grinned.

“She kissed him again but then kissed over to his ear.” She whispered, “Would you make love to me?”

“I would.” Luis answered.

“Will you?” Sheridan asked licking his earlobe.

“I will.” Luis breathed, “because I love you so much…” Luis began kissing her neck and touching her body.

“Thank you.” Sheridan sighed as she felt shivers up and down her body – head to toe. Slowly and tenderly they began to make love…and he sure did fly her as high as she could into the wild blue.
