Perry County Tournament 2001

When I was a softball player for West Perry, the Perry County Tournament was a big deal to everyone. You wanted to win that just to prove we were the best around. In the 2 years I played in the Perry County Tournament,(my sophomore year was rained out) The Mustangs finished second to Greenwood. The tournament for last year, 2000 had been rained out. This season, the first time I have been involved with the tournament since 1989....West Perry finished second to Greenwood. I'm beginning to think I'm a jinx on the tournament.

I personally thought all along that we had a shot at taking the tournament this season, I KNEW we were good enough to take second place easily. The first game against Newport was so exciting, the kind of game that's actually hard to watch because anything could change the outcome of the game. Even though I really wasn't involved with the Varsity team all that much during the season, I was impressed and pretty damn proud of them for playing tough and hard. The excitement in the air after the win was amazing, especially for a team with only one prior win in 2 season.
The best and most exciting play of the day was the double-steal attempt that The Sweeney Twins single-handedly foiled. This picture has Jim Woods the umpire calling the runner out at home.

The first inning of the game....

A BIG CELEBRATION FOR MANDY!!

It was a fun and exciting trip from Newport to Greenwood...We may not have won the tournament this season, but to quote the players immediately following the game.."we're bringing home the trophy next year baby!!" I believe them.
