Back Again, With Higher Expectations For 2001
I've decided that our goals and priorities for 2001 will be different than last season....
- We as coaches plan to make softball fun again at West Perry. There was nothing fun about getting crushed every game...we weren't even competitive.
- Each Individual player has something to offer the team that will have a positive outcome in a game. My job is to find it and use it to our advantage.
- We had a difficult time acting like and playing as a team in 2000...this year I expect the players on the JV roster to be as one.
- I want the players to enjoy themselves, learn something along the course of our season, and appreciate the sport.
- And yes, an important goal of the 2001 season is to win. I plan to be the coach who has the team that snapped a 2 season losing streak.
After the first two weeks of practice, I've discovered a few pleasant surprises. First of all, we have a VERY spirited group of freshman on the team this year. I have high expectations for Tiffaney A., Jen G., Jessica L., Penelope M., Kendra P., Lindsey S., Ashley S., Jillian W., and Brandy W. Other new additions include Nicole R. and Nicole S.
At this early point of the season, each and every player is working hard at each practice, with the ultimate goal of having a win every week of the season. From where I stand, anything is possible with a team of enthusiastic, never-say-die players who want a win as much as I do. Before long I'm sure there will be one huge celebration in Elliottsburg! And as far as the rumor
concerning a certain athletic trainer writing out a $100 check to the JV team for their first win? I guess we'll find out in a week or so!!!*** well, I guess we will find out a lot sooner than I thought, we got our first win in our first game!! SOMEONE'S gonna be broke by May!!
There IS truth to the rumor involving Sweeney and her cleats...I told her I'd buy her a new pair if she wore a hole in the ones she has now.....(she has trouble dragging her pivot foot.)
Speaking of pitchers and catchers...AKA the "elite force" of our team, Sweeney, Anna, Nicole, Mandy, Jen, and Michelle have put a lot of dedication into their practices for the past 2 weeks. the same can be said for our catchers: Anna, Mandy, Hannah, Kennedy, Abbey and Jacqui. I could see a huge improvement by the end of the first week, especially with the catchers' throwing accuracy and strength. Patience and confidence will be the key to our success this season.

stats, scores, important highlights and of course PICTURES will find their way on here sometime before MAY!!
Some of the varsity players have requested that I post their info too. It won't be as in depth as the JV's, simply because I won't see the varsity games, but I will do my best.
