Los Angeles Catholic Church in record abuse deal.

July 16th. 2007; LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles has agreed to pay $660 million to 500 victims of sexual abuse dating back as far as the 1940s in the largest compensation deal of its kind, the plaintiffs' lawyers said on Saturday. The settlement, which means victims will receive more than $1 million each, is the largest from the Catholic Church in recent years following many cases in which victims sought financial compensation for suffering sexual abuse from priests. This news comes out after the Vatican had said that the Roman Catholic Church is the only true church and that Catholicism provides the only true path to salvation. Yeah, right! That is a bold claim given that a series of widespread child sexual abuse had come from within the Roman Catholic church. In fact, sexual abuse by its Priests and Nuns actually goes back for hundreds of years. For centuries, the Roman Catholic church and its clergy were highly respected. Their behavior was considered beyond criticism by the vast majority of people within its "Christian" nation. The government and even the local police adopted a hands-off policy towards the Roman Catholic church. Though such charges of sexual abuse had been levelled against catholic priests in the past, they were quickly suppressed and covered-up. Only in the second half of the 20th century has the truth come to light and earned widespread public attention by the mid-to-late 1990s. Allegations of physical and sexual abuse by the Roman Catholic clergy started to surface in the late 1980s at the Mount Cashel orphanage in Newfoundland. People have come forward with horrific childhood tales about how priests (Brothers) had fondled or raped them. Almost always, the victims were grammar school boys. Boys between the ages of 4 to 12 years old were physicaly, mentaly and sexualy abused. The provincial government, local police and the Roman Catholic church cooperated to suppress and cover-up sexual abuse of minors for many years. They were able to suppress and cover-up their evil deeds because at that time, the Roman Catholic church had much influence over governments and its Christian soceities. The Mount Cashel orphanage in Newfoundland was one such place for sexual abuse. It was run by Priests, calld the Christian Brothers (The Christian Brothers of Ireland (CBIC). It is a branch of a Roman Catholic order. They have opened schools in many countries, one was the Mount Cashel orphanage in St. John's, Newfoundland, on the East coast of Canada. The conspiracy of silence could not hold indefinitely. In December of 1989, allegations of sexual and physical abuse were publicized in a local newspaper, the St. John's Sunday Express. Within six months, the last remaining boys were placed in alternative accomodation and Mount Cashel was closed down permanently. The Catholic church had the orphanage building torn down least it would remind people of its history of child abuse and molestation. More than 300 former pupils eventually alleged physical and sexual abuse at the orphanage. (The CBC (Canada broadcasting Corp.) made a mini-series The Boys of St-Vincent, which was a fictional account of young boys in the care at Catholic training schools in Ontario. The story was based based upon the true story of the sexual and physical abuse of children, in a Catholic institution, at theMount Cashel orphanage in St. John's, Newfoundland, where members of a Catholic religious order, were charged with physical and sexual abuse. ) An internal investigative panel placed some of the blame on Archbishop Alphonsus Penney of Newfoundland for suppressing and covering-up the physical and sexual abuse at that Christian orphanage. Archbishop A. Penney resigned in 1990 after a church commission criticized him for failing to prevent extensive physical and sexual abuse of the orphanage boys. This is not the only sexual abuse committed by Roman Catholic priests which has come to light. There are 38 known victims, minors, who were sexually abused in the diocese of St. George’s in Corner Brook, Nfld. It is schedule to pay out a $13-million settlement to victims of sexual abuse at the hands of a priest, despite a legal battle with its own insurance companies. The Roman Catholic church has done everything in its power to avoid court proceeding because it would only further hurt the church. After all, they have the supreme responsibility as the sound shepherd and steward they are, to protect the resources of the Roman Catholic church. HOW did the Roman Catholic church, (Who claims to be the only true church and that Catholicism provides the only true path to salvation) reacted to the sexual abuse upon Roman Catholic children? Church documents, official testimony, and victim interviews gathered over the past years paint an extraordinary picture of secrecy and deception within the Roman Catholic church. Being fully Aaware of Priests sexual abuse record, archdiocese still shuttled them from parish to parish. Top church officials coddled abusive priests and permitted them to molest parish children again and again, while stonewalling those sexual abuse cases or paying off some of the victims of abuse. Bishop Hubert O'Connor of British Columbia, Canada, was charged in 1992 and imprisoned in 1996 for sexually assaulting five teenage girls when he was a principal of a boarding school. Father Matthew Berko was accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in 1985. Criminal charges were brought and Berko pled guilty the following year. He received a one-year suspended sentence and was reinstated to the same parish the next year. The family of the victim sued and was awarded $184,000 dollars but never received any payment. Rev. Barry Glendinning pleaded guilty in 1974, to six counts of gross indecency for the sexual abuse of four brothers. Another time with a boy and one girl between 1968 and 1974. He received three years of probation and spent time in a treatment center. Later he worked in a rural parish in Alberta and admitted to "sexual improprieties" with young boys there. He was transferred to a parish in Toronto in 1983. A supervising clergy member for that church later claimed to have no knowledge of Glendinning's sexual criminal past. Leo Charron molested a boy for more than five years. Joseph Bonomi was accused of having sex with a teenager. Father Martin Houston worked as a supervisor at a residential dormitory prior to being ordained, between 1960 and1962. In 1962, he plead guilty to several counts of "buggery and gross sexual indecency" with five students. Because of the nature of the abuse, the judge in the case declared Houston a "dangerous sexual offender" and sentenced him to an indeterminate jail term. He was released on parole after serving 10 years. He went on to attend seminary and was ordained in 1990, despite the claim by many that the church was aware of Houston's criminal background. He was transferred from his first parish after parishioners complaints of the Priest sexual abuse. Since the media exposed his past in 2002, many have complained that they were never informed of his prior sexual abuse misdeeds. Fr. Paul Pornbacher sexualy abused an altar boy. 20 years later, the ex-alter boy was awarded $230,000 in damages after winning the lawsuit against Pornbacher. The victim's lawyer said it was the first time a Catholic priest had been successfully sued in civil court for damages caused by sexual assault. Priest Harold McIntee and Brother Glenn Doughty were convicted of multiple charges of sexual abuse of young males following an investigation in 1989. The abuse occurred at the same residential school where O'Connor (see above) committed his crimes. Leonard Buckley was convicted of molestation. In the USA, the Roman Catholic church was busy protecting its priests from being sued by sexual abuse victims. The Diocese of Orange, Calif., in 2004, had 90 known victims who were sexually abused by their priests. The Carmelites, known as The Province of the Most Pure Heart of Mary, in the Los Angeles Archdiocese, in 2002; had 7 minors who were sexually molested by members of the order. The Archdiocese of Boston, in the 1960s. there was sexual abuse of 100 young boys and girls at the parishes in North Attleborough, New Bedford and Fall River. Again in the Archdiocese of Boston, this time in 2003, 552 known minors were sexually abused. The Diocese of Covington, Ky., in 2006, there were 350 known Roman Catholic Church minors who were sexually abused. In the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, around 2006, 45 known Roman Catholic Church victims were sexually abused by clergy. In the Diocese of Oakland, Calif., in 2005, 56 known minors were sexually abused by priests from the Roman Catholic Church. In the Archdiocese of Louisville, Ky., in 2003, 243 known minors were sexually abused and were the victims of the Roman Catholic Church. In the Diocese of Tucson, Ariz., in 2005, 50 known minors were sexually abused. These are just some of the sexual abuse cases which were comitted by Catholic Priests which are known about. (AP) Nineteen Roman Catholic bishops, nine of them Americans, have resigned since 1990 in the context of sex scandals. The list is a very long one when you consider all the sexual abuse that had been committed upon children by Catholic Priests and Nuns. When you consider that this has been going on in Catholic Churches all over the world, for the better part of two thousand years. That adds up to a great many children who were sexually abused over that span of time since Christianity came upon the scene and started to pervert the truth and the people it touched. Oh; Lets not forget those Protestant churches who are a part of this Christian perversion. There are more than 260 sex abuse cases reported annually to insurance companies by Protestant churches. Three major Insurance companies which insure the majority of Protestant churches in America say they typically receive upwards of 260 reports each year of minors being sexually abused by clergy, church staff, volunteers or congregation members. Christianity appears to be a haven for pedophiles. Ever wonder why Insurance rates go up all the time? I am certin that the perverted, false, apostate, paganized religion called Christianity along with the Roman Catholic and Protestant Church's sex abuses must loom very high on GOD's Judgment. Need I say more?
