San Jose, CA - Celebrating the silver anniversary of the release of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, a fan- run convention in Silicon Valley has been scheduled for June 16- 17, 2000. Titled "Bay Area 2000", the convention will feature a variety of events for Rocky Horror cast members and fans from around the country. Special Guest Sal Piro, the President of the Rocky Horror Picture Show fan club, will be featured as part of the festivities.
The start of the convention features a 40's style swing/gangster party with a cash bar, dancing, and casino gambling, lasting through the evening. Casino winners will be able to use their "casino cash" to redeem Rocky Horror merchandise and memorabilia for their own collections.
Other exciting events include a "Gong Show" style Talent Contest, Special Performances by world class Rocky Horror casts, a "Who wants to be a Millionaire" style Trivia Contest, Costume Contest, "Sal's Raffle" featuring many prizes from Sal Piro, a Silent Auction of rare memorabilia, and an all-star performance of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, featuring cast members from across the country in one single performance.
The Bay Area 2000 Convention is being planned by a committee of local Rocky Horror fans and cast members from around the Bay Area. From Oakland's Barely Legal Productions: Nate Havoc, Katy Harris, and Brady Ferguson; from Fremont's The Bawdy Caste: Rob Miller, Shannon Blake, and Douggary Grant; and Larkspur's Frank's Virgin Ears: Lila Zimman.
The convention is to be hosted at the Doubletree Hotel San Jose, at 2080 Gateway Place, San Jose CA, and tickets are available in advance only, through the mail and over the internet. Tickets purchased between February 1 to March 19 are $20, from March 20 to April 30 are $30, and after April 30 are $40. Rooms are available under a group rate of $89/night when called in under "Rocky Horror Picture Show" to 408-453-4000 (beginning in mid- February).
