Welcome!

Hello, my name is Annie Dunn and I am a mother of 5 girls. I have had an interest in sign language ever since I was a small child. As I grew older, I found that my passion for sign language also grew.
I home-schooled my girls for a few years and during that time I taught my girls what sign language I knew at that time. They caught on quickly showing me just how much children can absorb. We played games and sang songs and learned to love this beautiful language. As time went on we learned more and more signs and enjoyed showing them off to eachother.
Over the years I have been fortunate to meet a few people who were deaf and was very thankful of my small knowledge of signing. For it helped me to communicate with them and build a friendship that may not have occurred if I had not known this language. Because of my joy of communicating to them, I found my passion was then increased and I knew I wanted to become an interpreter for the deaf. But because of several pregnancies and no school located nearby that taught signing, I was unable to become certified.
With having 5 girls it is not surprising to find out that I soon became a Girl Scout Leader. I had been a leader for 8 years when I had one girl in my troop join and her mother was talking to me saying how her older sister wanted to join as well but couldn't because she was deaf. I explained how I taught myself, but would be happy to have her in my other troop and to do my best to help her feel comfortable. Soon, I was teaching the troop how to sign as well so that everyone could talk to her and she would "fit right in" with everyone else. Watching her "talk" to us and be able to "hear" what we were saying really lit the fire that was already burning inside of me. I began to study more and more.
I was teaching my two troops how to sign and we were preparing to put on a play for the deaf in our community by having the play done in sign language. Unfortunally, that got cancelled due to our house burning down and our family having to move.
This move was hard at first but good things did come from this. I came upon a book about signing with babies and decided to buy it. At the time I thought babies were too young to understand enough to sign. Having a baby I thought I would try it just to see how well it would really work.
Was I ever surprised to find that my baby picked up on it and how much easier life had become! I looked into baby signing even more after that and saw how I could become an instructor for Baby Signs Incorporated. Joining this company has given me a larger passion for life, a desire to teach all parents so that they, too, can feel how wonderful it is to be able to communicate with your baby even before your baby can utter their first word!
My goal now is to become a District Manager for Baby Signs Incorporated so that I may help people to teach parents, caregivers, grandparents and others who are with children how to sign.
My hopes are that signing continues to grow within this country so that there is no longer a "silent world". We need to start somewhere and why not with the babies and toddlers who will become our future generation that will lead the generations to come!
