"I think it's gonna rain when I die..."
Sometime on April 19, 2002, the body of Alice in Chains frontman Layne Staley was found in his home in the University District of Seattle. After an autopsy was performed it was revealed that Layne died of an overdose of heroin and cocaine, and that he may have actually died the day of April 4th, 8 years to the day that Nirvana icon Kurt Cobain took his life because he couldn't kick his heroin addiction. While Layne kept out of the public eye for quite some time, and Alice in Chains was on "hiatus", many of us only knew (including myself), that it would be only a matter of time before Layne was found dead. Layne battled heroin addiction much of his life, but he never had any delusions about what he did or what he was. He admitted he was an addict, and used that as a semi-warning to his fans about the dangers of addiction. Layne, along with Mike Patton of Faith No More and Phil Anselmo of Pantera, showed me what the human voice is capable of. He will be missed dearly, but as long as we have his music, Layne Staley will live on in all of our hearts. Above is a discography of Alice in Chains albums and other various musical appearences.
