The stars cast an eerie glow over the Moon Kingdom, a little dimmer than the ordinary shining they normally shone over the white pillars. Perchance it was the sign of the danger that was to pass.

Gold colored boots clacked on the marble passages as a figure made its way to the outside. Thinking that no one would be around, the person opened the door and prepared to leave. A young man with gold-blond hair, wearing a uniform with a gold cape, walked up behind the individual.

“You shouldn’t be out.”

The person spun around. She was two years younger than the lad in front of her, wearing Sailor Scout attire. She sported a white top with a golden skirt, a silver bow on the leotard, and a silver bow tied in the back. The tops of her white gloves were also gold, and the tiara around her head had a white gem.

The girl shook her head sadly, her long brown braid flying over her shoulder, staring up at the man in front of her. Her hazel eyes cast a determined gaze on him.

“I know something’s going to happen, Phaethon, I just don’t know what,” the girl replied in a soft, serious voice. “Darkness is near. I can feel it coursing through my veins.”

“Rosemary—I mean, princess—you said you had this feeling a while ago; I don’t think there’s anything to worry about,” Phaethon argued.

“Don’t think just because you’re Prince of the Sun means you can tell me that there’s nothing to worry about,” Princess Rosemary of the Earth snapped. “I’m serious. I’m going out there.”

“Look, it’s the middle of the night, everyone’s sleeping, we had a grand time; can’t we just go back to bed?”

Rosemary’s eyes trailed over Phaethon’s full garb. “You apparently haven’t been in bed. Your entire outfit is on.”

Phaethon blushed. “Queen Serenity sent me out on night patrol.”

“Please, Phaethon, let me handle this. I’m Sailor Earth, not a six year old.”

Phaethon sighed, knowing there was no use arguing.

“All right. All right,” Phaethon groaned. “Go.”

“Thank you! You’re a sweetie!” Rosemary cried, throwing her arms around the prince and kissing him tenderly. “Don’t worry…I go only to return.”

Phaethon answered, “Hurry back.”

The girl vanished from his sight, echoes rebounding off the white walls. Phaethon gazed after the retreating young princess and sighed in despair.

“Why must she have a mind of her own?”

Princess Rosemary, the solider known as Sailor Earth, felt the glittering stars’ light fall over her sore body. She didn’t care how injured she was from the last battle; she just knew that the Moon Kingdom, Queen Serenity, Princess Serenity, her brother Prince Endymion, and the Guardians of the Princess Serenity (Venus, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, Saturn) depended on her. The lone Sailor Scout stood there, holding her ground, her legs stiff as boards. Any minute now…

A globe of black electricity crashed into her body without warning. Sailor Earth screamed; the assault had taken her completely by surprise. Standing before her was Queen Beryl, laughing, her voice dripping with malice.

“Want some more?” she taunted.

“…Aaaah!” Sailor Earth’s hesitation had given Beryl time to cast another attack. “This has gone too far! Earth Holy Spark!”

White light soared into Sailor Earth’s fist and she punched, sending out hundreds of piercing stars. Beryl bellowed at the attack, the stars ripping a wound in her shoulder. Her black eyes gleamed furiously, seeing the blood.

“You’ll pay for that!”

“Aaaah!” Another wave of black energy hit Sailor Earth before she could dodge. She collapsed to her knees, Beryl cackling evilly.

“You better beg for mercy…it’s over, Sailor Earth!”

“Mercury Aqua Illusion!”

“Mars Celestial Fire Surround!”

The wave of water and the orbs of fire smashed into Queen Beryl, who yelled out of pain and surprise.

“That’s not all…Venus Love-me Chain Encircle!”

“Jupiter Thunder Blast!”

The electrical shock and the whipping gold chain resulted in Beryl becoming mad with rage and agony. She started charging another black electrical orb, ready to throw it at her aggressors. A blast of fire quickly dissolved it and Sailor Earth, who was ready to faint, turned around to see her protectors.

Sailor Venus, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, and Sailor Jupiter stood there, uniforms and all, glaring at Beryl.

“You never give up, do you?” Sailor Jupiter growled. “Bad guys don’t get away with hurting our pals!”

“The Moon Kingdom will fight against your dark shadow!” added Sailor Mercury.”

“Stay away from Sailor Earth or we’ll give you more pain than necessary!” shouted Sailor Mars.

“To protect this kingdom, we will punish you!” Sailor Venus concluded.

“Why the speeches, why the speeches?” Beryl groaned. “Come over and save your friend…if you can!”

A black force immediately surrounded Sailor Earth. Screaming with pain, she fought against the dark power. The torture was making her world blur, and Sailor Earth almost wanted to give in and die, to end it all. But like a wild tiger she struggled with the energy that bound her. She let out another piercing wail. Beryl laughed and laughed, sending attacks to the fighting Sailor Scouts…

Slash.

The power disappeared, and Sailor Earth fell to her knees, panting with exhaustion and moaning at the aching. A gold sword clattered next to her. It had obviously penetrated the might of Queen Beryl’s power. It seemed as if everything had frozen as Phaethon stepped forward. Sailor Earth started sobbing out of pain and frustration.

Instead of reprimanding her, however, Phaethon picked up his sword and pointed it at Beryl’s chest.

“I have reinforcements if you want to try more,” he hissed.

Sailor Moon, Tuxedo Mask, Sailor Uranus, Sailor Neptune, Sailor Saturn, and Sailor Pluto stood behind Phaethon and the other Sailor Scouts. A cruel smile spread across Beryl’s face.

“This will be fun…” she cackled.

“Don’t even think about it, Beryl,” Sailor Uranus snarled.

“We’re ready for anything,” was Sailor Moon’s bold reply.

Sailor Earth, shedding crystal tears, felt so inferior. She had been overestimated. Sailor Earth, the sister of the prince of Earth and a guardian along with him, had been defeated by her foe. Her tears continued as she lifted herself up to her feet.

“Earth…White Magic…Total…ugh…” Sailor Earth crumpled down to the ground again, her energy lost. Phaethon gasped, dropped his sword, and knelt at her side. Sailor Earth put her hand into his and stared up lovingly into his blue eyes.

“I feel so weak…” she coughed.

“No…you’re not…” Phaethon discouraged, trying to fight back the tears that were about to fall from his eyes.

“Promise me one thing…” Sailor Earth whispered, her voice fading.

“But—“

“Beryl is going to destroy this kingdom. Please…leave me and go…with…every…one…else…”

Sailor Earth closed her eyes and drew in her last breath. Phaethon began to weep silently, putting his arms around the dead girl. He didn’t realize that Beryl was standing over him, ready to strike. Tuxedo Mask noticed, but it was too late.

“Phaethon! Look out—”

The wave of Queen Beryl’s strength piercing through the Sun Prince’s body felt like a thousand knives. He bore it bravely, wincing, tears running down his face. He groaned and fell, his arms still clutching Sailor Earth’s limp body. Tuxedo Mask, horrorstruck at his sister’s and best friend’s deaths, yelled with anger.

“You stop this, Beryl! Stop this pain and suffering!” he implored.

“Too late!” Queen Beryl yelled gleefully. “The barrier is now open!”

An eruption of black power shattered through the open space. The walls began to crumble while the moon shook. It was as if a massive dragon was thrusting the kingdom back and forth. Chunks of marble fell like rain, one clobbering Sailor Jupiter in the head.

“Moon Tiara Magic!” Sailor Moon cried over the rumbling, throwing her gold tiara at Queen Beryl.

“Think fast!” Beryl threw the tiara with great force back at the Moon Princess, nearly cutting her arm off before attaching itself back on Sailor Moon’s head.

Each Sailor Scout, overcome by the ripple of dark magic, was killed, either by marble or by the electrical volt. Beryl cackled and vanished. Soon afterwards Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask were found in an embrace, both dead, the murdered scouts scattered around them. Nearby was Queen Serenity, weak and helpless, lying on a fallen pillar with Luna and Artemis, the two Guardian cats, beside her.

“Luna…Artemis…how Beryl cast this dark gloom over our kingdom will forever be a mystery. But it is time.”

“My queen, you can’t use the Silver Crystal!” Luna pleaded.

“I must,” Queen Serenity contradicted. “Evil forces would soon find me and kill me anyway. I have to send my daughter, her love, and her comrades to the Earth, where they can at last live normal lives.”

“It will take every last bit of your strength!” Artemis wailed.

“My life will not be used in vain, Artemis. The Moon Crystal…glowing with a magical light…it must have the power!”

A white light shimmered. One by one, Princess Serenity, the Sailor Scouts, and Prince Endymion floated towards the Earth in the queen’s bubbles. The queen’s eyes sought out Princess Rosemary and Prince Phaethon, holding each other even in death.

“They, of course, cannot be left here.” Queen Serenity turned to her cats. “You cannot be left here either.”

Tears streaked down the two cats’ faces as the bubbles formed around them. Rosemary and Phaethon, encased in two separate bubbles, floated after the cats, leaving the Moon Kingdom.

Queen Serenity felt her being slip away from her. She whispered to the stars, “Farewell,” and closed her eyes for the last time.

Years later, the Sailor Scouts are faced with a new enemy. Sailor Moon and her friends may be able to win…but there’s a chance they might not. Little do they know whom they will meet along the way…
