.:Anywhere For You-Chapter 22:.

Chapter Twenty-Two

Beth spotted Kevin through the thickening crowd. He was standing alone and using his hand to shade his eyes from the sun. He looked like he was looking for something or someone so she waved to him. When he finally noticed her, his eyes lit up and he rushed towards her.

"I was worried about you," he said softly when he reached her.

"I'm fine. Isn't he the cutest?" she said, motioning towards Benny.

"Yeah, he's adorable," he answered.

She sighed heavily and leaned against him. He slipped his arm around her waist and they stood watching the reunion of the small family of three.

"This moment is one of the most perfect moments in my life," she whispered into his ear.

"You actually seem relaxed," Kevin answered. "I haven't seen you this happy in awhile."

As they stood there whispering to each other, the parents of Benny finally noticed them.

"Hi, Beth! I'm Benny's mother. Thank you so much! You don't know how much this means to us."

"Benny's a great kid," Beth answered. "I can tell he has a great family."

"Thank you very much," his father said.

"You're welcome. Now, you three, enjoy the rest of your day. Bye. Bye, Benny," Beth said.

They waved to each other as Kevin and Beth walked back through the crowd. Once they reached the other boys and their friends again, Beth was already stressed and upset.

"Beth, you have to tell me what it is that is bothering you," Kevin said as he pulled her aside.

"Okay, fine! Kevin, I need your help again. The money I spent on Benny's ice cream was seriously my last two dollars. I don't have a source of income or a house. I need your help, but I don't want to mess with your mind or anything. I know how you feel about me, but I don't want to do that. I just want everything to stay the way it is."

"Beth, I've told you a thousand times, you are always welcome at my place. Now as for the incident in the car, I've been thinking about that. I want to know what sparked my sudden feelings and everything, and as I watched you with Benny and his parents, I finally realized what it was. My time with you in Kentucky, when my dad was alive, that was the best time in my life. When we were standing over there, I realized what it was. I'm nostalgic. I miss Kentucky. I thought if we were back together as a couple as we were in high school, then everything would be just like old times. I'm sorry for making you go through this. Let's just be friends."

"Things are never going to be the same! We have to keep moving on through life. For me, things are definitely looking better, because I have you."

"And I have you!"

The two hugged.

"Come on, let's go down to the water," Kevin said as he helped Beth up.

"Race ya!"

"Oh, no! I'm not going to fall for that one, little miss first place at every track meet."

"Fine, let's just walk," Beth said and grabbed his hand. They walked down together, into their new life. This was now a life where they could help each other through every thing life could possibly throw at them. If they were successful, that was good for both of them. But if they had any problems, they would struggle through it together, as equals, as friends, as best friends, always and forever.
