Dear Diary,

Today we finally arrived at the Norben Brotherhood. It feels so good to finally be in these halls again. We were met warmly by Kral. He seemed extremely happy to see August and myself. I hadn’t expected to see him in such good spirits but I was pleased to see him this way. We spoke for a few minutes, just catching up with each other until August abruptly asked if D’Ellis had previously arrived. The question, needless to say, was on the tip of my tongue, I had just held it back. Krals’ face dropped for a moment and when he spoke again he said that D’Ellis had indeed arrived before us but it was because he was not well and he was rushed here. D’Ellis had been poisoned and he almost didn’t make it. I had Kral take us to him straight away. D’Ellis had thankfully made it through the worst. I just wish that I could have been here sooner to try to help him through it. I’m sure he had the best of care and there isn’t anything I could have done but still would have liked to have been here.

When we arrived he was sleeping. He looked strong and well so I was eased a bit. I sat with him, holding his hand until he woke up. I don’t think he expected to see me sitting there, he looked kind of startled at first but the confused gaze turned quickly to a smile and I could see he was well.

He and I went out onto the balcony to be alone and talk. We could see the sun setting through the trees and for a moment if felt like a dream, one I’ve had many times. We spoke for a long time out there and he ended up saying something about Neilan, well Gallon I mean. All this time he thought that I had married him. I know that’s what I wanted him to think but I suppose I always hoped that he would have somehow known it was a lie. Things are finally right between us, at least for now anyways. I know I shouldn’t be with him….if Gallon were to find us together I hate to see what he would do. I’ll just have to make sure that doesn’t happen. Hopefully things will be settled here in Eldilar soon and then we can leave again. I feel safer when I’m not here.

When D’Ellis and I returned he introduced me to everyone. Tekhtarast, Gaiden, Draven, Brendon, Gillion, and of course August were there. They invited August and I to join them in their search for the princess and we were happy to join them so we set off. Things didn’t go so well though. We ran into a great many of the warriors of the Darkwood and one thing led to another. August had somehow offended them and they sentenced him to a dunking in Blood Lake. I know how horrified of water his so I did what I could to try to stop it. They beat D’Ellis until he was unconscious. All I could do unfortunately was watch because a few guards were holding me back. Tekhtarast was just standing there shaking his head. I can’t believe he let them beat his friends. I suppose he has his reasons, but I could never stand by and watch my friends be hurt. Brendon however took off all of his armor and dove into the water. He gave himself up so they would leave August alone. It was an incredibly ingenious and heroic act. He seems like a remarkable individual to give himself up to save his friend and two total strangers.

Well one thing led to another, and with some decoding work by Tekhtarast, we were able to discover that D’Ellis and Gillion are being sought by Nightwalkers. He wanted to separate from us, to try to save us but we convinced him that he was being ridiculous. I couldn’t imagine separating from him, not again.

We have decided to spend the night at the Brotherhood. We each have some preparation to do before we set out to find the princess.
So much is happening now. I just wish things would calm down a bit.
Hopefully we will be able to set everything right.

Your Humble Servant,
Vitriol
